SnS Design Creates Smart Kitchen Appliance for Easy Shopping

Integrated Appliance Automates and Simplifies the Way You Shop for Groceries

NEW YORK, March 9 -- SnS Design, a woman-owned industrial design consultancy located in New York City, was selected to design a state-of-the art kitchen appliance with an integrated system that automatically builds a shopping list from items scanned.

Designed for Ikan Technologies, Inc. of Stamford, Conn., (http://www.ikan.net) the Ikan is a 7" WI-FI based touch screen tablet running Google's Android operating system embedded with a high speed scanner that is revolutionizing in-home grocery shopping.

The Ikan is a wireless appliance which resides in the kitchen and automatically builds a shopping list from items scanned and messages recorded into the device before items are disposed of. Scanned and recorded items are simultaneously sent to the user's Ikan and mobile phone or directly to an online grocery retailer's shopping cart.

  Ikan provides consumers:
--  Automated grocery list-building through quick and efficient scanning
--  Direct grocery delivery and pick up options through integrated
      retailers
--  Access to national coupons, detailed product information and in-store
      specials

The Ikan automates a shopping list by scanning items while also running your favorite Smartphone applications such as recipes, VoIP, Music, e-mail, weather and social networking.

"Nisha Sawhney, owner of SnS Design's collaborative design methodology allowed our team to be intimately involved with the design process every step of the way," said Gregory J. Ahnet, CEO of Ikan Technologies, Inc. "Nisha and her team were able to meet our stringent timelines even with last minute changes to the product design," Ahnet said.

According to Sawhney, the Ikan provides the link between the kitchen and the consumer on the go. "The same shopping list you see on your Ikan is the same shopping list you see on your Smartphone," said Sawhney. The Ikan can even include your own branded retailer application allowing customers to view specials, featured recipe, promotions, etc. right from their kitchen or Smartphone.

"With the proliferation of smartphones, the time has come for the smart kitchen," added Sawhney.
