QXM Informs Parent Company it Requires Additional Time to Evaluate Acquisition Proposal
BEIJING, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-Asia-FirstCall/ -- Qiao Xing Mobile Communication Co., Ltd. (NYSE:QXM) ("QXM" or the "Company"), a manufacturer of mobile handsets in the People's Republic of China (the "PRC"), today announced that the special committee of its board of directors (the "Special Committee") has advised QXM's parent company, Qiao Xing Universal Resources, Inc. (Nasdaq: XING, or "XING"), that the Special Committee is not currently in a position to respond to XING's proposal to acquire all of the outstanding ordinary shares of QXM that XING does not currently own. The Special Committee has advised XING that it is continuing to work expeditiously with its advisors to respond to XING's proposal, but that it could not, at this time, provide a date certain by which it will complete its work in evaluating XING's proposal.
XING has proposed to offer 1.9 shares of its common stock plus US$0.80 in cash for each QXM share held by persons other than XING (the "Minority Shareholders"). XING filed its letter of intent with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC") on Form 6-K on September 8, 2010. New PureSense Irrigation Manager(TM) Droid App Now Available Through the Android Market
Innovative Mobile App Proves Useful to Growers for Irrigation Management
FRESNO, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- PureSense Environmental Inc. announced today that its Irrigation Manager(TM) Android application is now available through the Android Market.
The PureSense app allows growers to monitor their real-time field conditions and irrigation activity from their Android phones. Monitoring stations placed throughout growers' fields send data through the internet every fifteen minutes and the PureSense Android application allows the grower to access that information in the field. Using the "offline sync" feature, the data becomes available on the Android phone even when the grower enters an area without cellular signal.

The spread of mass panic through SMS is unnecessary and people need to

Having so many means available to spread and gather information has many
benefits. For one, governments cannot get away with hiding information.
Protests of doubt around the legitimacy of last year's Iranian elections
results were proof of this. The protests were dubbed "The Twitter Revolution"
due to the protesters' dependence on social networking platform Twitter and
other similar Internet sites to communicate with each other.
This mass-panic through technology is not a new phenomenon - in 1938 the
first segment of HG Wells' War of the Worlds was aired over the Columbia
Broadcasting System radio network. Since the first episode was done as a
simulated news bulletin, many listeners thought that an actual Martian
invasion was taking place. As the news spread from person to person, America
was soon caught in a state of mass panic and widespread confusion.
More than 70 years on, people are still letting themselves fall victim to
rumours and hearsay without first determining the accuracy of so-called
'facts'. Take the recent politically-laden SMSes that did the rounds around
the time of Eugene Terre'Blanche's murder. The messages were highly
sensationalist, potentially damaging and very much untrue. Yet, they managed
to spread mass panic, unrest, fear and scepticism among citizens of the
country.

What many fail to realise is that with the increased power of mass
information dissemination, comes increased responsibility. One has to become
more discerning in how one approaches communications using new technologies.
The SMS channel is an especially dangerous means of transmitting
upsetting messages. Because it is delivered directly to your phone and
generally used as a means to alert, the gravity of the situation is
amplified. The key is to stop and think before sending an SMS. Before

This is very interesting news. Adobe initially shunned the x86-64 branch of the Flash player and forced many to run the 32-bit player in a wrapper on 64-bit systems.
Adobe has just updated their player to support x86-64, natively, on Linux (and Mac/Windows). This player still does not support any sort of additional hardware rendering that is present on the Windows and Mac builds. If you don't want to use Adobe's Flash, you can try Lightspark.
Verizon Supports Boucher-Terry Universal Service Reform Legislation
WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- At a Congressional hearing on Thursday (Sept. 16), Verizon endorsed legislation that would update the nation's universal service telecommunications subsidy system and re-purpose funds to make broadband services available to even more consumers in high-cost areas.
In testimony before the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet, Kathleen Grillo, Verizon senior vice president of federal regulatory affairs, reiterated Verizon's support of the Universal Service Reform Act of 2010, introduced by Reps. Rick Boucher, D-Va., and Lee Terry, R-Neb.
"This bill would transform USF from a voice-based support system to a broadband system and help expand the reach of broadband services to those Americans who still lack access to high-speed networks," Grillo told the subcommittee. "This important legislation moves the ball forward on the critical issues, including universal service and intercarrier compensation reform, traffic pumping and other matters."
Grillo underscored the importance of numerous provisions of the bill, including requirements for the Federal Communications Commission to determine support for wireless carriers through competitive bidding, complete inter-carrier compensation reforms within one year, and take action against "traffic-pumping" scams that abuse the system.
"The Universal Service Reform Act puts in place a more rational, competitive bidding system for high-cost USF support to wireless carriers," Grillo said. "Almost everyone recognizes that today's system is broken. Among other things, multiple wireless providers get support in the same areas, even where there are carriers that compete without universal service support."
The Verizon executive cited the importance of controlling the cost of universal service: "The high-cost fund is literally at a tipping point," she said. "Whatever changes we make must be in line with what consumers can reasonably afford."
