Sengled Boost Reinvents the Light Bulb as a Wi-Fi Repeater
Innovative LED Light Bulb-Integrated Wi-Fi Booster Gives Consumers the Signal Range They Need for Home Automation
ATLANTA, March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sengled, makers of intelligent lighting products that integrate consumer electronics with LED bulbs, today announced the release of the Sengled Boost, an LED light bulb with a built-in Wi-Fi signal repeater that can boost connectivity levels throughout the home. The first product of its kind offered at an affordable price, the Sengled Boost incorporates two antennas in each LED bulb, providing the connectivity levels users need to get a strong signal anywhere in the house and power devices throughout their connected homes.
"People typically have a single Wi-Fi transmitter in their home that provides a strong signal near the device, but signal performance diminishes the further you move away from the transmitter," said Robin Foreman, VP of Marketing and Business Development of Sengled North America. "That's a problem if you're connecting in other rooms to use smartphones, tablets, gaming or entertainment consoles or any of the popular new home automation products since the signal may be obstructed by walls or objects or the device may be too far away to get a strong signal. Sengled Boost fits in standard lighting fixtures, which is a perfect solution since fixtures are typically mounted overhead and free from obstructions."
Sengled Boost not only strengthens Wi-Fi signals, it provides users with eco-friendly, energy efficient, long-lasting LED lighting that can be controlled from a free app via a smartphone or tablet. The app allows users to configure the Wi-Fi signal and control light levels. The Sengled Boost LED light bulb doesn't have to be turned on to boost the Wi-Fi - the light can be dimmed or turned off while the Wi-Fi signal boost function continues, making Sengled Boost perfect for connecting devices in any room - day or night. Once configured, Sengled Boost saves the setup information so users don't have to setup a new connection for each use.
Using Sengled Boost is a great way to de-clutter the home with a wireless Wi-Fi booster that enables users to seamlessly access a strong signal and maximize the value of the technology they use every day. And since Sengled Boost LED bulbs come in a variety of sizes to fit most light fixtures, they can wireless strengthen Wi-Fi signals in virtually any home.
Sengled Boost is another bright idea from Sengled, the company that reinvents the light bulb by combining it with the consumer electronics that make modern life better. To learn more about Sengled and Sengled Boost, please visit http://www.sengled.com.

Tightly Integrated with New 70 GHz ATI Oscilloscopes for Small Footprint, High Performance Digitization
BEAVERTON, Ore., March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer of oscilloscopes, today unveiled a new 45 GHz optical modulation analyzer (OMA) capable of supporting the latest 100G and next-gen 400G communications standards. With support for single-carrier or multi-carrier systems, the analyzer is tightly integrated with the Tektronix DPO70000SX 70 GHz ATI Performance Oscilloscope also announced today to provide multi-channel, high sample rate, low noise digitization of complex modulation signaling for testing coherent optical transmitters, transmission systems, and receivers.
The use of new 5¼" high performance oscilloscope packaging provides engineers with the flexibility to place multiple acquisition channels together with minimal rack or bench space impact. For example, two of the new 70 GHz instruments can be placed in the same space as a standard lab performance oscilloscope. This provides additional acquisition performance while minimizing the distance to the modulation analyzer for improved signal fidelity.
To ensure precise performance in a multi-channel environment, the new UltraSync solution enables a multi-instrument acquisition system with coordinated triggers for inherent acquisition-to-acquisition jitter better than typical channel-to-channel jitter in any single instrument. In addition, it includes a high-speed data path to transfer waveforms from extension units to the master unit for rapid analysis.
Integrated test solution speeds time to market
The explosive growth of mobile and cloud computing continues to drive long-haul optical communications bandwidth demands. To maximize fiber optic and network infrastructure investments, the industry has turned to complex optical modulation formats that allow higher effective data rates without requiring greater network bandwidth. To date, researchers and engineers have needed to turn to multiple test and measurement vendors or even build their own test fixtures to perform required tests, costing valuable research time and reducing repeatability. With today's introductions, Tektronix has now solved the industry-wide problem of how to efficiently test coherent modulation technologies.
"As 100G technologies start to move into the mainstream and 400G is coming into focus, we're hearing from customers that configuration flexibility and measurement system integration are vital factors in ensuring fast time to market," said Brian Reich, general manager, Performance Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. "In addition to offering new optical modulation receivers at 45 GHz, we now deliver the most complete coherent optical solution with the signal integrity of a 70 GHz bandwidth ATI oscilloscope and improved configuration flexibility."
Performance Today and the Future
The OM4245 45 GHz Optical Modulation Analyzer is capable of dual-polarization coherent optical analysis up to 80 GBaud. It offers built-in, narrow linewidth lasers and supports the Tektronix OM-Series User Interface (OUI). Along with proven ease-of-use for typical analysis applications, the Tektronix OUI also provides the flexibility and access to the MATLAB computational engine researchers need for more advanced coherent optical analysis. This provides a robust, time-saving, and customizable platform for conducting experiments in coherent modulation algorithms.
As 100G requirements evolve into 400G, or even 1Tb, engineers need a test and measurement system that can grow with their requirements. The new Tektronix DPO70000SX ATI Performance Oscilloscopes allow convenient system expansion as performance needs evolve. For analysis beyond 400G, the OM4245 offers Multi-Carrier Support (option MCS) that delivers automated analysis for any configuration of multi-carrier systems including 800G and 1Tb architectures.
The new 45 GHz OMA along with the 70 GHz oscilloscope are being showcased at OFC 2015 taking place this week in Los Angeles, CA. OFC is the largest global conference and exposition for optical communications and networking professionals.
Pricing & Availability
The OM4245 optical modulation analyzer prices start at $240,000 US MSRP and is available to order now worldwide.

The Need to Protect Mainframe Applications
Many large enterprises have been running their critical business applications in mainframe environments for years. Because of mainframes' unique characteristics -- as well as the highly specific nature of those applications -- they continue to be prevalent in many industries. Protecting the applications and maintaining uptime are essential to the operation of these businesses; therefore, quick backups and restore times are vital. Enterprises also face compliance requirements mandating that mainframe application data be retained for years, creating a need for high storage capacity.

HGST Helium-Filled HDDs Rise To New Levels; Achieve Industry-Leading Milestone In Field Reliability
Leading Companies Around the World Select HGST's HelioSeal(TM) Platform for Best Storage Density, Reliability and TCO for Cloud and Enterprise Data Center Storage Applications; More than One Million Units Deployed
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- With more than one million helium-filled hard disk drives (HDDs) deployed, HGST (@HGSTStorage), a Western Digital company (NASDAQ: WDC) today announced it has achieved a new milestone in reliability as the only manufacturer with drives field-proven and rated for two and a half (2.5) million hours mean time between failure (MTBF). Today's news demonstrates that HGST's helium HDDs are poised to become the mainstream choice for data center applications where storage density, reliability and power efficiency are paramount. Now shipping its second generation HelioSeal Platform drives, HGST is shifting its volume mix and ramping Helium production to meet strengthening customer demand across cloud and mainstream data center applications.
With strong market acceptance from the largest cloud service providers, Internet giants, OEMs and businesses around the world, including Netflix, Huawei, Inspur, HP, OVH, Starline, Buffalo, DataON, DDN and Racktop to name a few, the HGST HelioSeal Platform represents proven innovation in high-capacity HDD technology and reliability, while lowering true total cost of ownership (TCO). While there are a number of ways to increase hard drive capacity, HGST's HelioSeal platform is the only technology to provide unmatched reliability and a long-term path for delivering higher capacity storage on a standard 3.5-inch HDD form factor, while lowering power and drive temperature at the same time. All this equates to best storage density, TB-per-system weight, TB/Sq. foot and lowest watt/TB for enterprise and cloud data centers.
Since introducing the technology in 2013, HGST has been steadily increasing volume production to enable an expanding set of customers to enjoy the proven benefits of its Helium-filled technology. Now in its second generation, HGST's HelioSeal platform is gaining broader customer support and the company is increasing production of its Ultrastar® He8, 8TB drives - the highest capacity available in the market that delivers full performance for all capacity-optimized applications. HGST's HelioSeal technology allows this to be accomplished at standard 7,200 RPM performance with low power while competitive air based products typically reduce RPM and performance to achieve lower power.
Both the Ultrastar® He8 and the Ultrastar He6 families now feature an unprecedented reliability rating of 2.5M hours MTBF. Due to its patented manufacturing process and the inherent benefits of Helium, HGST's HelioSeal drives are field proven and have a more robust design margin than traditional air based drives. The HGST Helium drives are hermetically-sealed, which keep air, humidity and other contaminates out of the drive, allowing them to be used in harsh or ambient environments. The Helium inside the drives also reduces disk vibration and flutter, adding to even greater reliability.
HGST will continue to extend its capacity leadership by combining two complementary technologies: HelioSeal technology and Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) in its industry-leading 10TB helium-drives. The additive nature of these two technologies, combined with the economies of scale provided by increased Helium-drive manufacturing capacity, will further enhance HGST's TCO advantage. HGST expects that by 2017, 50 percent of its enterprise capacity drive shipments will be Helium.
"Based on the patented HelioSeal technology, HGST's Ultrastar Helium-filled drives are the only drives that improve data center TCO on virtually every level--from storage density, power and cooling costs, to reliability, capacity and more. We also believe it is the only way to get to higher densities therefore higher capacities while maintaining reliability. All of these factors contribute to defining the true TCO of the data center," said Brendan Collins, vice president of product marketing, HGST. "With more than one million drives deployed, the rapid industry adoption of this revolutionary technology affirms our commitment to Helium as the foundation for all future scaling technologies. With a valued-based pricing strategy in place and manufacturing investments to promote the increased volumes, HGST is on an accelerated path to delivering higher capacities and better TCO into existing and future form factor designs."
Driving Down Data Center TCO: The Value of HelioSeal Technology
With the amount of new data being created and replicated doubling every two years, data center architects have a lot to consider when planning for future growth. Capacity growth is only one piece of the equation. The additional power, cooling and floor space required to operate that extra storage is another, and can add up. Leveraging the inherent benefits of Helium, HGST's HelioSeal technology delivers today's lowest TCO for enterprise and cloud data centers through:
-- Greater power efficiency - Disks spin more easily in a helium-filled
environment, resulting in 23% lower operating power. The 8TB helium
drives consume just 5.1 watts during idle operation, a 44% reduction in
watts-per-TB compared to conventional 6TB air-based HDDs, creating
greener data centers with reduced energy costs and carbon footprint.
-- Leading storage density - Helium is essential to maintaining the
required reliability for future generation drives beyond 8TB.
Industry-leading 8TB capacity in a 3.5-inch HDD footprint, which are
plug-and-play in virtually any data center environment, delivers 33%
more storage capacity for mainstream applications than competitive 6TB
offerings.
-- Lower cooling requirements - HGST Helium-filled drives typically run 4
degrees - 5 degrees C cooler, which lowers power and cooling costs and
leads to better field reliability, allowing HGST to increase its MTBF
specification for the He6 and He8 drives.
-- Better weight-per-TB - Up to 38% lower weight-per-TB for improved
environmental conditions in high-density deployments and allows for more
storage capacity where building codes enforce floor loading limits.
-- Environmental robustness - Use them virtually anywhere, including
ambient air, free cooling data centers. Many air-filled drives use a
breather filter leading to reliability problems when used in
environments with high levels of carbon or dust, or in high altitudes.
This problem does not exist with HelioSeal drives as they're
hermetically sealed.
-- Value $/TB - Higher volume production for its second-generation 8TB
HelioSeal HDD leads to lower cost to the market.
HGST is shipping its 6TB Ultrastar He6 and 8TB Ultrastar He8 helium-filled drives in volume today. HGST's 10TB Helium HDDs with SMR are sampling with select customers. For more information, please visit: http://www.hgst.com.

TE Expands Quareo Physical Layer Management Product Family
New QNG4 and QHDEP Frame and Panels Support Higher-Density Applications
MINNEAPOLIS, March 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity, today announced that it has expanded its Quareo family of physical layer management (PLM) solutions with additional products featuring connection point identification (CPID) technology. Quareo PLM solutions enable higher network availability while reducing network costs by integrating full visibility of the physical layer into existing network management applications. The new products expand options for central office and data center network architects who want to implement physical layer management to gain an accurate, real-time view of the physical network.https://photos.prnewswire.com/prnvar/20150313/181622
TE's Quareo PLM system is an end-to-end solution, combining hardware and software elements and CPID technology to provide accurate visibility on the state of the physical network at all times. It enables easier, smarter network management for everyone from cable installers to network managers, strengthening physical security, boosting availability and providing real-time communication with network assets.
The new NG4access optical distribution frame (ODF) featuring Quareo technology (QNG4), provides superior access to high-density fiber terminations up to 3,456 fibers per frame. With innovations in access trays, universal adapter packs, cabled modules and multifiber push-on (MPO) modules, installing and maintaining large amounts of fiber can be done faster, easier and less expensively than previous ODF solutions available on the market.
The high-density equipment panel featuring Quareo technology (QHDEP), is a 1RU fiber optic panel with six technician-friendly access trays. Each tray features a mounting location for holding one LC or MPO adapter pack, or MPO module or cabled module. A single access tray can serve up to 24 LC fiber connections or 8 MPO fiber connections. At full capacity, the QHDEP will hold up to 144 (LC), 576 (12F MPO), or 1,152 (24F MPO) fiber connections. With many different adapter packs and modules this allows for quick modular deployment for 10, 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet links which can be mixed in the same high-density equipment panel (QHDEP) chassis. These modules can be changed or upgraded without disturbing adjacent cables.
"By providing a real-time comprehensive picture of every connection point in the physical layer, Quareo PLM significantly improves productivity and efficiency of physical layer management and maintenance processes while reducing downtime and operating costs," said Pat Thompson, director of Product Management at TE. "These additions to the Quareo PLM product portfolio further extend our physical layer management technology by enabling higher-density connectivity."

JavaScript IntelliSense helps programmers complete code faster by providing auto-completion options for statements. The added JavaScript IntelliSense support lists objects, functions, properties, and parameters available to a programmer based on their current code. So, language elements can be more easily and accurately inserted. In addition to improving coding speed, it also helps reduce programmer errors. The JavaScript IntelliSense feature is supported in Visual Studio 2010+ and Eclipse 4.2+ (with Aptana Plugin v3.6+). The revised disk caching mechanism now handles batch scanning of thousands of documents.
"Today's document management solutions require the flexibility to conduct image capturing from many devices and this includes webcams," said Amy Gu, Vice President of Dynamsoft. "The use of cameras for document management applications is mission-critical in many applications. One highly popular example is evident with online banking deposits. So, providing an all-in-one SDK with webcam image capture alongside 1D barcode reading capabilities is vital. This helps developers that are also themselves increasingly looking to develop all-in-one solutions."
Dynamsoft SDKs enable programmers with a simple built-in interfaces and code. With this they need only write just a couple of lines of JavaScript code to enable full scanning functions. It saves months of work and related costs and frees teams from having to also provide future technical support. The SDKs furnish users with key features for document scanning, uploading, editing, and document management within web browsers. MTS Systems and McLaren Applied Technologies Join Forces to Commercialize Next-Generation Vehicle Dynamics Simulator
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., March 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- MTS Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: MTSC), a leading global supplier of high-performance test systems and position sensors, today announced that it has finalized an agreement with McLaren Applied Technologies (MAT) to pursue commercialization of a next-generation Vehicle Dynamics Simulator (VDS). Per the agreement, this state-of-the-art simulation technology will be manufactured by MTS and made available for purchase to automotive OEMs, Motorsports Teams and Tier One suppliers worldwide.
The MTS-McLaren VDS integrates a dynamic motion simulation platform and sophisticated sensory cueing systems to accurately replicate the experience of driving a vehicle while still in the early stages of development. The VDS features a highly adaptable vehicle environment with real-time computing capabilities, allowing for rapid integration of vehicle models, terrain models and physical test hardware. These capabilities serve to accelerate and streamline vehicle development processes by helping engineers resolve handling issues and analyze the impact of design changes early on, avoiding the need for expensive, time-consuming rework on physical prototypes during test track validation.
According to Professor Mark Gillan, Director of MTS' Motorsports Technology Group, the MTS-McLaren VDS offers unique advantages over conventional driving simulators. "The system's compact, modular, portable design and low energy requirements make it suitable for office, laboratory or test track deployment, providing a common point of reference for groups across the design and development continuum," he explained. "Additionally, the system can be easily enhanced to accommodate advanced mechanical Hardware-in-the-Loop (mHIL) technology, which enables the potential real-time integration of difficult-to-model physical hardware, such as tires, dampers, hybrid powertrains and steering systems, directly into the simulation. This adds significant value to the whole vehicle development process, enabling designers and developers to dramatically reduce both lead times and cost while improving correlation between the laboratory results and the test track."
"By combining McLaren's vehicle modelling expertise and simulator technology with MTS Systems' experience in mechanical testing solutions, we hope to revolutionize mainstream car development on a global scale," stated Geoff McGrath, Vice President of McLaren Applied Technologies. "The simulators and associated technologies developed by MAT and MTS Systems deliver unique advantages because they are built on the 'driver in the loop' model. The driver is immersed into a complex simulation of a car, which enables accurate, human feedback to the vehicle engineering team. Car set-up can then be changed, and further tests conducted immediately."
"This is another great example of how we can leverage our Motorsports Technology relationships to bring the most advanced new product development technologies to the global automotive market," said Dr. Jeffrey Graves, MTS President and Chief Executive Officer. "These advancements will help OEMs in reducing cycle time and improving the performance of new automobiles, ultimately bringing higher performing, lower emissions, and more fuel-efficient vehicle designs to the global market quicker than ever before."
