The initiative, which runs through November 2015, kicks-off today with a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) hosted by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web. The AMA, intended to give a passionate social community the once-in-a-lifetime chance to speak with a luminary in the WIRED world, goes live at 2 p.m. EDT / 8:00 p.m. EET on reddit, which receives more than 50 million visitors a day.
Also today, WIRED and Nokia are launching a content hub--a first-of-its-kind narrative on WIRED.com. Throughout the duration of the initiative, the hub will serve as place for users to share their enthusiasm and concerns about technology. Based on user feedback, topics will be determined and content will be created. Videos, short web posts, and long form articles will be published regularly by WIRED's Brand Lab, comprised of industry luminaries, experts, and notable writers.

The HDOT Switched product line includes the following power options: 3-phase 208V 30A, 3-phase 208V 60A, and 3-phase 415V 30A (400V 32A for international). Cord entry options are front face or bottom end. Two outlet modules to select for each of the two positions in the assembly: 18xC13 or 12xC13+6xC19.
HDOT - To combat the limited physical space that PDUs compete for in the data center rack, Server Technology developed High Density Outlet Technology (HDOT), the smallest form factor PDU which significantly increases real estate in the back of the rack by fitting 42 C13's in a 42U high network managed PDU device--that's over 30 percent smaller than a comparable PDU using standard outlets. This was accomplished by removing the shell that surrounds commercially available C13 and C19 outlets, and creating a series of multi-outlet modules in a variety of configurations that fit into a common monolithic metal enclosure. To exploit this design and the thousands of variations it makes available, Server Technology developed a quick turn manufacturing process that provides short lead times for PDU's with the exact combination of C19 and C13 outlets in the locations where the customer needs them. The HDOT design implements high native cord retention, reducing or eliminating the need for custom and costly ancillary locking cord devices.
With increasing outlet density comes increased power, and potentially increased heat. HDOT is manufactured with robust high temperature materials carrying a UL94 V-0 flame rating, making these outlets ideally suited for the harshest data center environments.
Alternating Phase - To simplify load balancing and cable management, Server Technology offers PDUs with Alternating Phase outlets, which distribute phases on a per receptacle basis, providing tangible benefits in the form of shorter cable runs, resulting in better airflow, easier load balancing, and greater efficiencies. Prior to the advent of HDOT, Alternating Phase products were impractical to build due to the low outlet density inherent with discreet commercially available outlets.

Bosch Sensortec Launches MEMS Sensors With Integrated Microcontroller for Android Smart Phones

Bosch Sensortec today announced the BHI160 and BHA250, two sensor devices with
integrated sensor hub. Today's smart phones rely on always-on sensors for applications
such as fitness tracking, step counting, indoor navigation and gesture recognition. By
offloading sensor processing to the BHI160 or BHA250, as well as buffering sensor data
locally on the devices, system designers can ensure the main application processor is
never woken up just to process sensor data. This significantly reduces system power
consumption, and thus extends battery life - a major competitive advantage for phone
manufacturers.
The new devices integrate a best-in-class 3- or 6-axis MEMS sensor with the new Bosch
Sensortec DSP "Fuser Core". The BHI160 and BHA250 are specifically designed for
applications in Android smart phones - implementing the full Android Lollipop sensor stack
inside the devices where they provide a flexible, low power solution for motion sensing
and sensor data processing.
The new devices implement the full Android Lollipop sensor stack and can be updated
with new software features to support future releases. The BHI160 is the industry's
lowest-power solution that is fully compatible with Lollipop, using less than 1.55 mA for
a complete 9-axis solution including the Fuser Core, the integrated accelerometer and
gyroscope and an external magnetometer.

Power-efficient core
The Fuser Core is a 32-bit microcontroller that is optimized to execute Bosch
Sensortec's sensor fusion and activity-recognition algorithms with ultra-low power
consumption. It uses significantly less power than standard microcontrollers, with a
saving of up to 95 percent compared to Cortex M0 and up to 90 percent compared to Cortex
M4 based devices.
The BHI160 and BHA250 both offer identical functionality except that the BHI160
integrates a 6-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU), consisting of a 3-axis gyroscope and
3-axis accelerometer, while the BHA250 omits the gyroscope. This makes it a smaller and
lower-cost device, and gives OEMs the flexibility to use it in eCompass applications where
a gyroscope is not required.
Compact package
The BHI160 is available in a 3.0 x 3.0 x 0.95 mmcubed LGA package, while the BHA250 is
provided in a 2.2 x 2.2 x 0.95 mmcubed LGA package. These packages are the same size as
competitive sensor-only devices without an integrated DSP. Integrating the sensor hub
reduces the bill of material, and saves on valuable PCB space compared to solutions based
on standard microcontrollers.
Both new devices are fully pin- and footprint-compatible with Bosch's sensor-only
variants from Bosch Sensortec, giving OEMs the flexibility to support multiple different
smart phone devices on one platform, and to make decisions later in the design cycle.
Availability
Samples are scheduled to be available to selected customers in the second quarter of
2015.

New NOR Flash Memory Devices Enable XIP Capability With the World's Lowest Power Consumption and World's Fastest Read/Write Time
CHANDLER, Ariz., March 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, today announced a new family of 3V Serial Quad I/O(TM) interface (or SQI(TM) interface) SuperFlash(®) memory devices--the SST26VF. This three-member "26 Series" SQI interface family is available with 16-Mbit, 32-Mbit or 64-Mbit of memory, and is manufactured using Microchip's high-performance CMOS SuperFlash technology, which provides the industry's fastest erase times and superior reliability.
The SST26VF memory family provides the fastest erase times in the industry, due to its use of SuperFlash technology. Sector and block erase commands are completed in just 18 ms, and a full chip erase operation is completed in 35 ms. Competing devices require 10 to 20 seconds to complete a full chip erase operation, making the SST26VF approximately 400 times faster. These fast erase times can provide a significant cost savings to customers, by minimizing the time required for testing and firmware updates, and therefore increasing their manufacturing throughput.
Microchip's SQI interface is a low pin count, high-speed 104 MHz quad-bit address and data multiplex I/O serial interface, which allows for high data throughput in a small package. This interface enables low-latency execute-in-place (XIP) capability with minimal processor buffer memory, reducing the overall design footprint compared to traditional parallel memory interfaces. The SST26VF family provides faster data throughput than a comparable x16 parallel Flash device, without the associated high cost and high pin count of parallel Flash. Designed for low power consumption, the SST26VF is ideal for energy-efficient embedded systems. Standby current consumption is 15 microAmps, typical, and the active read current at 104 MHz is 15 mA, typical. LoRa technology has several advantages over other wireless systems. It utilizes a spread-spectrum base modulation that is capable of demodulation with a 20 dB below noise level. This enables high sensitivity with robust network links, improves network efficiency and eliminates interference. The LoRaWAN protocol's star topology eliminates synchronization overhead and hops, compared to mesh networks, which reduces power consumption and enables multiple concurrent applications to run on the network. LoRa technology also has a much longer range than other wireless protocols, which enables the RN2483 to operate without repeaters, reducing the total cost of ownership. In comparison to 3G and 4G cellular networks, LoRa technology is far more scalable and cost effective for embedded applications.
The RN2483 module resolves the age-old wireless developer's dilemma, where they had to choose between longer range and lower power consumption. By employing LoRa technology, designers can now maximize both while reducing the cost of additional repeaters. Additionally, the RN2483 provides them with the ability to secure their network communication using AES-128 encryption.
With its scalability, robust communication, mobility and the ability to operate in harsh outdoor environments, the RN2483 is well suited for a broad range of low-data-rate wireless monitoring and control designs.
