LG Electronics Unveils Attractively Priced Commercial Display Series Packed With Features
Introduced at DSE 2015, Brand New Series Addresses Growing SMB Market Segment
LAS VEGAS, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics USA today introduced an all-new digital signage monitor series, a cost-effective solution for the U.S. retail and small- to mid-size business (SMB) markets. The five new models in the SE3B series redefine affordable digital signage, with lower energy consumption, a narrower bezel width and flexible content management features.
The sleek and stylish displays, on display at the 2015 Digital Signage Expo, exemplify how LG Electronics is responding to U.S. market demand and customer feedback.
"At LG, we're committed to listening to our customers. Their input helps us better understand what the market needs and focus our innovation on products that will give our customers a competitive advantage," said Clark Brown, digital signage vice president for LG Electronics USA. "We are proud to be making superb digital signage technology more attainable to the SMB market."
The new SE3B series is available in five screen sizes, ranging from 32- to 65-inch class (31.51- to 64.53-inches diagonally), and boasts a bezel width (at its thinnest point) of just 11.9 mm, the thinnest on the market at this price. The new series features conformal circuit board coating, a clear, non-conductive coating that is applied to the circuit boards to help protect the internal circuits from harsh environmental factors such as dust, humidity and grease.
LG's new series offers the ability to control the signage monitors and distribute content through Wi-Fi by providing two USB ports, one for a USB dongle control and one for content distribution. USB capabilities allow customers to easily and seamlessly control content downloads without a complicated process. The series supports third-party device management through Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) standards, allowing businesses to receive notifications and control the monitors remotely. The series also includes upgraded features, including a detachable logo and cable management for a clean and flawless installation.
In order to fulfill customer demand for consistent aspect ratio, LG created the "Sustain Aspect Ratio" mode that allows the monitor to manage the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) more effectively. This feature delivers a very valuable function of keeping the display aspect ratio and resolution locked in, regardless of the power cycling of the display and or the media player. Additionally, LG created an option that allows customers and system integrators to control or conduct a status check on the monitor, as well as control the network and backlight, even when the power is off, enhancing the manageability of the panel and control of the signage system.
The SE3B series also allows customers to store a pre-defined image on the panel as back up if the standard inputs fail, giving an even higher level of redundancy and customer satisfaction.. Further, with the SE3B series, customers can now use the new Image Sticking Management (ISM) mode that allows better hardware protection and life expectancy of the panel, lowering the total cost of ownership.
The SE3B series is ENERGY STAR® 6.0 certified, and consumes 18 percent less energy compared to previous models. To further conserve energy, its Direct Power Management feature allows the circuit network to remain on while the panel can be switched off.
In addition to seeing the new SE3B series for the first time, visitors to LG's booth at DSE 2015 (March 11-12, Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall #1213) will be able to experience interactive demonstrations of other LG benefits, including In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology and 4K Ultra HD capabilities.
Designs, features and specifications subject to change without notice.

Low-Power Networking Technology from IBM and Semtech to Help Enable Telcos to Launch New Services for the Internet of Things
New Standards Organization for Long Range Wide-Area Networks Debuts
ARMONK, N.Y., March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM Research (NYSE: IBM) and Semtech (Nasdaq: SMTC) today announced a new technology based on low-power, wide-area networks (LPWANs) that offer significant advantages over cellular networks and Wifi for providing machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.
For years, the enormous potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) for business -- to collect data from scores of devices, analyze and act upon it to make quick and accurate decisions -- has been held back by technical challenges such as limited battery life, short communication distances, high costs and a lack of standards.
The technology, called LoRaWAN(TM) (Long Range wide-area networks), overcomes these hurdles. Based on a new specification and protocol for low-power, wide-area networks that taps an unlicensed wireless spectrum, the technology can connect sensors over long distances, while offering optimal battery life and requiring minimal infrastructure. This allows it to deliver such benefits as improved mobility, security, bi-directionality, and localization/positioning, as well as lower costs.
In support of LPWAN technology, IBM, Semtech, and other companies also announced the LoRa(TM) Alliance, a new association to support and develop the standardization LoRaWAN.
The LoRa Alliance aims to combine hardware and software based on the LoRaWAN standard for telecom operators and network operators, enabling them to offer IoT services to both businesses and consumers. From sensors and machines to monitors and wearables, soon connecting billions of devices together could be as seamless as sending an SMS to your local telecom provider.
LoRaWAN sensors can communicate over distances of more than 100 km (62 miles) in favorable environments, 15 km (9 miles) in typical semi-rural environments and more than 2 km (1.2 miles) in dense urban environments at data rates from 300 bit/s up to 100 kbit/s. This makes them well suited for sending small amounts of data, such as GPS coordinates and climate readings, where broadband can't reach. The sensors also require very little energy to operate; most can run for 10 years or more on a single AA battery, and AES128 keys make communication tampering and eavesdropping virtually impossible.
Telecom operators and other network operators around the world see dozens of applications for LPWANs, including:
-- vending machines could alert distributors when a product is sold out or
when it requires maintenance
-- cities could offer smart metering and apps to help drivers find parking
spaces
-- animal lovers could track their pets or study migration patterns over
longer distances
-- logistics providers could track cargo containers on trucks, ships and
trains
-- home heating oil companies could receive automatic alerts when home oil
tanks are running low
"We see a tremendous opportunity for LPWAN in South Africa, particularly for energy management applications," said John Myers, CEO of FastNet. "There is a vast range of applications for this technology ranging from medical solutions to agricultural systems. This is another example of Africa being on the cutting-edge of innovation to drive new hi-tech markets."
When combined with IBM's Long Range Signaling and Control (LRSC) software and the IBM Internet of Things Foundation cloud hosted service, LoRaWAN enables easy, large-scale M2M/IoT deployments. The LRSC is the middleware layer or glue enabling users to connect, manage and scale to millions of devices. IBM has also made the LoRaWAN protocol open source (Eclipse Public License) for end-node development known as "LoRaWAN in C".
"The Internet of Things is already changing our world - from better traffic control on our highways, to greater energy efficiency in buildings and manufacturing operations, to reduced crime on our city streets," said Thorsten Kramp, Master Inventor, IBM Research. "Technology advancements like the one we're announcing today will help significantly advance that vision by extending the range and longevity of sensors that make up an intelligent world."
Senet, a Network as a Service (NaaS) M2M operator based in New Hampshire, is currently installing 20,000 Semtech LoRa sensors with IBM's LRSC software to track the fuel levels of propane and oil tanks located at residences and businesses on the west and east coasts of the United States. Every hour the sensors collect and securely transmit data, including fuel levels, gauge status, sensor status, and sensor recalibration reports to fuel providers, who then determine when to dispatch deliveries and replenish supplies.
"We have eliminated the guessing game,"said George Dannecker, CEO of Senet. "Our gauges are accurate and thanks to the LoRa technology they work over longer distances, reducing our infrastructure costs, which are savings we can pass to our clients. Consumers also benefit from knowing how much fuel is in the tank at all times."

The Gaming Head-Set Without the Headache in 2015: Reevu G-TECHEAD
LONDON, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --
The world's only rear-vision heads-up display helmet manufacturer, Reevu
[http://www.reevu.com ], are developing another world first: G-TECHEAD - a fully immersive
sound, feeling and visual experience in a gaming headset. G-TECHEAD is a revolutionary
development in immersive headsets.
With a decade of experience in pioneering the safe delivery of data to the near eye
area in their motorsports helmet range, Reevu have decided to employ their expertise in
other market sectors. Markus S, head of development , comments: "Safely developing optical
systems in helmets has led us to understand that a number of other sectors could benefit
from our expertise"
The G-TECHEAD is a fully immersive concept product that will enable the owner to
insert their device into the helmet through its interchangeable carrier. The devices can
then be viewed across the optical cassette, delivering high definition images to the
curved mirrored visor in front of the user's eyes, using their own visual systems instead
of trying to replicate the phenomena with varying results. The invention overcomes the
issue of having to use strong lenses close to the eye or the projection of light directly
onto the retina due to Reevu's patented binocular optical system that reflects the image
over its focal length onto the wide-angle curved visor. The headset will create a fully
immersive world with vibration, high definition sound and visual display, designed to fit
within an encapsulated article of headgear. The environment will enable the user to game
for periods without detrimentally interfering with the natural human interface, something
that gamers will appreciate.
Markus S. further comments: "After reviewing videos of concept augmented reality
designs that show head-up display systems, we feel there is a better, safer way to reach
that goal"
Extensive research into human interface visual systems has enabled the company to
develop an un-paralleled understanding of the science.
Reevu are currently in talks with a number of tech companies about the development and
are currently developing the prototype and media interest so that the project can be
launched on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter for late summer 2015, with a proposed
production date in 2016 and retail price of $299.
"This invention will revolutionize head-up displays, so that they overcome a number of
problems that occur at the human interface." - Graham Steele,Director Reevu.
Retailers can now let shoppers tap and swipe their way to a more relevant selection of products to drive new levels of engagement -- all within the mobile browser
AUSTIN, Texas, March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Edgecase, the platform behind today's most inspiring shopping experiences, today launched Visual Shopping, a new solution that allows retailers to provide their mobile shoppers with a highly visual and intuitive product discovery experience that feels more like an app than a website. With Visual Shopping, retailers can offer a Pinterest-like shopping experience that is personal and memorable - and all within the mobile browser. Shoppers, liberated from menus and search boxes, are visually immersed in relevant products with the ability to save, share or continue to browse at every point.
The new Visual Shopping solution is already driving measurable improvements for Urban Decay. Early results show that shoppers who interact with Visual Shopping are more likely to engage, participate and buy from the brand:
-- Engage: 5x more products viewed per session
-- Participate: Nearly 10% of shoppers share products with others (social
or email)
-- Buy: 150% higher conversion rate
"Our customers are highly visual beauty fans who turn to Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration," said Katherine LaFranchise, AVP, Urban Decay. "Edgecase's Visual Shopping offering allows us to provide a mobile browsing experience that is similar to these apps, with a layer of intelligence to show shoppers what they are looking for, even if they can't name it themselves. This is an amazing value proposition, and our early results are exceeding expectations."
"Outdated website navigation structures are a hurdle on desktop - and a disaster on mobile," said Garrett Eastham, Edgecase's co-founder and CEO. "Visual Shopping allows retailers to get in step with consumers who expect to swipe and tap their way through beautiful images, not plod through search boxes and grids. The result is an inspiring and relevant mobile discovery experience that keeps shoppers engaged and encourages brand re-engagement if they're not ready to buy right then."
Market Opportunity: #MobileFail
Mobile commerce continues boom, with 87% year-over-year growth recently reported by NRF's Shop.org. However conversion rates remain well below all other channels as the mobile shopping experience leaves much to be desired - especially in the browser. First-generation responsive design has yielded rigid navigation structures, grid layouts and product "dead-ends" with few options other than to purchase or bounce.
As retailers race to improve mobile experiences, they must meet the demands of increasingly visual younger shoppers who hop between Pinterest, Instagram, Tinder and YouTube. As these apps rise in popularity, shoppers accustomed to swiping, tapping and scrolling through images become increasingly impatient with linear navigation hierarchies.
"The cookie-cutter nature of today's on-site product navigation and discovery has stripped the soul from shopping for many of us," said Lauren Freedman, president of e-tailing group. "We don't doubt the efficiency of mobile or a good on-site search tool's ability to locate a very specific product, but consumers are looking to the online store to do more."
Visual Shopping From Edgecase: Select, Explore, Share & Save
With Visual Shopping, retailers can instantly assemble and display a visual collage of relevant products whenever a shopper lands on a category or product page. Products are related through Edgcase's platform using shopper-friendly attributes ("vegan", "neutral", "soft") - not a manufacturers product copy. Visual Shopping adapts and learns as the shopper continues to interact, clicking and tapping their way to a more relevant selection of products.
-- Select: Shoppers simply select "More Like This" on an item to begin a
visual journey through the product catalog.
-- Explore: Shoppers quickly swipe and tap through compelling product
visuals, while behind the scenes Edgecase surfaces the most relevant
products based on the shopper's interests and a merchandising vocabulary
that matches the way shoppers naturally think.
-- Share & Save: Compelling product discoveries can be pinned, shared,
emailed or tweeted with a simple tap.
The entire experience is delivered within the mobile browser, where the majority of email, paid media and social sharing lands. The new offering ensures that a shopper can always click, scroll or tap to another item or action, eliminating "dead ends" and allowing brands to maximize existing brand and direct marketing investments.
About Edgecase
Edgecase is the platform behind today's most inspiring shopping experiences. By allowing shoppers to communicate their unique preferences, context and shopping style, we empower them to discover products on their own terms. Using a proprietary combination of machine learning and human content curation, the Edgecase platform enables shopping experiences as unique as the brands we work with. This trend is similar toTaiwan market. * User behavior across different screens is very complex. 36% of multi-device users show completely different behaviors, while 42% of the users have similar behaviors across devices. * Usage of multi-device is highly dependent on time of day & day of week. * People in Japan user more PC and smartphone during weekdays, while tablet usage is significantly higher on the weekends. * PC usage is higher at work while mobile device usage is higher before and after work. * Consumer preference for screen size is continuously shifting towards the middle. * Mid-size devices (4-4.8 inch phones & 9.7 inch tablets) still make up for the majority in both Q3 and Q4 2014. * Similar to Australia, iOS usage is still more than Android in Japan. * Ad Effects vary based on device types and screen sizes for game, retail, and travel industries. * Large phones (>5 inch) receive better CTR (click-through rate) for gaming and retail campaigns. * Small phones (<4.8 inch) receive better CTR for travel campaigns. "This report demonstrates the complexity of user behaviors across multiple devices. Without intelligent data analysis, it's difficult for marketers to predict their target audiences' user behaviors in this multi-screen era. At Appier, we leverage the power of Artificial Intelligence and big data to provide consumer insights for marketers to develop their customized marketing campaigns," saidChih-Han Yu, Appier co-founder and CEO.
Appier has launched its Cross-Screen (across smartphones, tablets and PCs) Marketing technology to Japanese market last October. Many Japanese brands and advertising agencies have started to use Appier's Cross-Screen Marketing to successfully reach their target audiences. Appier will continue to look for new partnerships, with hopes of connecting with local companies to utilize data and providing marketers and advertisers an unprecedented digital marketing experience.

Cadence Introduces Innovus Implementation System, Delivering Best-in-Class Results with Up to 10X Reduction in Turnaround Time
- Provides typical 10 to 20 percent production-proven advantage in power, performance and area
- First massively parallel implementation solution in the industry, enabling unprecedented speed and capacity
- Supports advanced 16/14/10nm FinFET and established process nodes
- Next-generation platform eases usability and boosts engineering productivity
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CDNS) today unveiled Cadence(®) Innovus((TM)) Implementation System, its next-generation physical implementation solution that enables system-on-chip (SoC) developers to deliver designs with best-in-class power, performance and area (PPA) while accelerating time to market. Driven by a massively parallel architecture with breakthrough optimization technologies, the Innovus Implementation System provides typically 10 to 20 percent better PPA and up to 10X full-flow speedup and capacity gain at advanced 16/14/10nm FinFET processes and established process nodes.
The Innovus Implementation System was designed with several key capabilities to help physical design engineers achieve best-in-class performance while designing for a set power/area budget or realize maximum power/area savings while optimizing for a set target frequency. The key Innovus capabilities to achieve this include:
-- New GigaPlace solver-based placement technology that is slack-driven and
topology-/pin access-/color-aware, enabling optimal pipeline placement,
wirelength, utilization and PPA, and providing the best starting point
for optimization
-- Advanced timing- and power-driven optimization that is multi-threaded
and layer aware, reducing dynamic and leakage power with optimal
performance
-- Unique concurrent clock and datapath optimization that includes
automated hybrid H-tree generation, enhancing cross-corner variability
and driving maximum performance with reduced power
-- Next-generation slack-driven routing with track-aware timing
optimization that tackles signal integrity early on and improves
post-route correlation
-- Full-flow multi-objective technology enables concurrent electrical and
physical optimization to avoid local optima, resulting in the most
globally optimal PPA
The Innovus Implementation System also offers multiple capabilities that boost turnaround time for each place-and-route iteration. Its core algorithms have been enhanced with multi-threading throughout the full flow, providing significant speedup on industry-standard hardware with 8 to 16 CPUs. Additionally, the Innovus Implementation System features the industry's first massively distributed parallel solution that enables the implementation of design blocks with 10 million instances or larger. Multi-scenario acceleration throughout the flow improves turnaround time even with an increasing number of multi-mode, multi-corner scenarios.
In addition to providing best-in-class PPA and optimized turnaround time, the Innovus Implementation System offers a common user interface (UI) across synthesis, implementation and signoff tools, and data-model and API integration with the Tempus((TM)) Timing Signoff solution and Quantus((TM)) QRC Extraction solution. Together these solutions enable fast, accurate, 10nm-ready signoff closure that facilitates ease of adoption and an end-to-end customizable flow. Customers can also benefit from robust visualization and reporting that enables enhanced debugging, root-cause analysis and metrics-driven design flow management.
"At ARM, we push the limits of silicon and EDA tool technology to deliver products on tight schedules required for consumer markets," said Noel Hurley, general manager, CPU group, ARM. "We partnered closely with Cadence to utilize the Innovus Implementation System during the development of our ARM(®) Cortex(®)-A72 processor. This demonstrated a 5X runtime improvement over previous projects and will deliver more than 2.6GHz performance within our area target. Based on our results, we are confident that the new physical implementation solution can help our mutual customers deliver complex, advanced-node SoCs on time."
"Customers have already started to employ the Innovus Implementation System to help achieve higher performance, lower power and minimized area to deliver designs to the market before the competition can," said Dr. Anirudh Devgan, senior vice president of the Digital and Signoff Group at Cadence. "The early customers who have deployed the solution on production designs are reporting significantly better PPA and a substantial turnaround time reduction versus competing solutions."

This new MacBook will change the laptop landscape, and Maclocks is there to fulfil its
security needs. Maclocks realized the importance of dedicating time and effort to
designing the perfect lock for MacBook security.
The Blade has a minimalistic profile and sleek styling similar to that of the new
MacBook. Though unassuming in design, it is extremely tough and durable with the ability
to hold up to 150lbs of weight! The industrial adhesive bracket attaches to the MacBook
and incorporates a lock slot to the tip of the retractable blade. The new MacBook doesn't
come with a built in security slot, leaving it exposed with no way to secure it. With its
integrated cable slot, The Blade is the solution to the MacBook security problem.
Maclocks anticipated Apple's updates of its MacBook range with upgrades to its Air and
Pro lineups, which explains the importance of creating such a universal design for The
Blade. It is the world's first truly universal lock securing ALL MacBook models.
"This lock is it," says Assaf Katan, Maclocks CEO. "This new generation of the MacBook
is something we have been anxiously waiting for. We are thrilled to once again be the
first to offer a radically innovative lock so people don't have to compromise on the
security of their MacBook."
New KitchenAid® Toasters: Large Capacity, Sleek Design
CHICAGO, March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Further enhancing this home kitchen essential, KitchenAid has designed new 2- and 4-slice toasters with increased functionality and a virtually seamless design. These newest additions to the KitchenAid toaster collection made their debut today at the International Housewares Show in Chicago.
The 4-Slice Toaster, featuring a long slot and extra wide 1½" slots, can accommodate everything from English muffins and breakfast pastries to thickly-sliced artisan breads.
"In addition to their larger slots and sleek design, these toasters also offer enhanced programmability and ease of use," said Beth Robinson, senior manager of brand experience for KitchenAid. "For example, multiple setting stages like bagel, defrost and keep warm can all be selected at once, and the toaster will move through the settings on its own."
For added convenience, both toaster models include an Extra Lift feature to easily remove smaller slices that can be harder to grasp once toasted. A Peek & See mode allows for easy monitoring of toasting progress without stopping the toaster, while a handy Keep Warm Mode keeps foods warm for up to three minutes after toasting has ended. Seven settings, including Bagel, Defrost and Reheat, allow for precise toasting at any level.
Additional features include an easy-to-clean, smudge-resistant metal housing and push to release crumb tray. The cord tucks neatly underneath the base of the toaster, freeing up additional counter space and making for convenient storage. Both models will be available in June in Contour Silver, Empire Red and Onyx Black. Suggested retail prices are $99.99 for the 2-slice model and $129.99 for the 4-slice model.
Since the introduction of its legendary stand mixer in 1919 and first dishwasher in 1949, KitchenAid has built on the legacy of these icons to create a complete line of products designed for cooks. Today, the KitchenAid® brand offers virtually every essential for the well-equipped kitchen with a collection that includes everything from countertop appliances to cookware, ranges to refrigerators, and whisks to wine cellars. Cook for the Cure®, the brand's partnership with Susan G. Komen®, is now in its 14(th) year and has raised over $10 million to help find a cure for breast cancer. To learn why chefs choose KitchenAid for their homes more than any other brand*, visit KitchenAid.com or join us at Facebook.com/KitchenAid and Twitter.com/KitchenAidUSA.

Ryft Shatters Big Data Analytics Barriers With World's First Commercially Available 1U Analytics Platform Capable of 10+ Gigabytes/Second Performance
The Ryft ONE delivers value from business insights by analyzing historical and streaming data together at speeds 200X faster than conventional hardware while cutting operational costs by 70 percent
ROCKVILLE, Md., March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Ryft today unveiled the Ryft ONE, the only commercial 1U platform capable of providing fast and actionable business insights by simultaneously analyzing up to 48 terabytes of historical and streaming data at an unprecedented 10 gigabytes/second or faster. Powered by the Ryft Analytics Cortex, a new massively parallel, hardware-accelerated architecture, the Ryft ONE enables data scientists and business analysts to extract intelligence from data in real time, replacing hundreds of high-end servers and slashing operational costs by 70 percent. A single Ryft ONE, using less power than a hair dryer, can store and analyze the equivalent of the contents of Wikipedia in 4.5 seconds, without any data indexing, preprocessing, tuning or partitioning.
"The loosely coupled, physically distributed compute-and-memory nodes of today's high-end clusters turn daunting data analytics problems into IO bottlenecks that can slow solution times. The Ryft ONE platform aims to supercharge performance on challenging analytics workloads with a scalable 1U device designed for easy integration into existing server environments," said Steve Conway, IDC research vice president for high-performance computing and data analysis. "The Ryft ONE is also designed to accelerate both batch and streaming data -- a dual requirement more and more user organizations face today."
"You can't squeeze the real-time insights you need to run your business from solutions built on decades-old hardware architectures. The performance required to unlock the value of big data demands a new type of architecture that optimizes compute, storage and IO," said Des Wilson, CEO of Ryft. "The Ryft ONE will shift the market from legacy x86 architectures to a platform purpose-built for real-time analysis. That's because the Ryft ONE is open and compact like a Linux server but executes like a high-performance computer -- beating the performance of hundreds of conventional servers at a fraction of the cost."
About the Ryft ONE
Years in the making, the Ryft ONE combines breakthroughs in both hardware and software to boost big data analysis with the:
-- Ryft Analytics Cortex (RAC): Massively parallel, hardware-accelerated
compute architecture that speeds historical and streaming data analytics
to speeds of 10 gigabytes/second and faster.
-- Ryft Algorithm Primitives (RAP) Library: Expanding collection of
prebuilt algorithm components such as exact search, term frequency and
fuzzy search that accelerate the development and execution of
applications.
-- Linux Front-end and Open API: Compliant with open standards to work with
a wide range of visualization, scheduling, performance monitoring and
systems management tools. Supports popular programming languages such as
C/C++, Java, R, Python, Scala and others.
-- High Performance With High Security: Analyzes SSL encrypted data without
added latency to protect sensitive data without sacrificing performance.
Data can be stored either encrypted or unencrypted, with no impact to
analytics performance.
Performance Benchmarking
Benchmark tests conducted in early 2015 against the highest-performing in-memory solutions showed that a single Ryft ONE outperformed large Spark clusters of 100 to 200 nodes, at a 70 percent operational savings. Performance benchmarks for term frequency, exact search and fuzzy search are provided at ryft.com/products.
Ryft ONE Availability and Resources
The Ryft ONE will be available in early Q2 2015, as a hosted or on-premises solution. For more information on the Ryft Early Access Program, contact a sales specialist at 855-RYFT-ONE or info@ryft.com.

WD® Delivers World's Most Power-Efficient High-Capacity 3.5-Inch HDD For Modern Datacenters
New WD Re+ Hard Drive Offers 6 TB While Consuming Only 6 Watts and Is Key Component of Company's Expanding Capacity Storage Portfolio
IRVINE, Calif., March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- WD(®), a Western Digital (NASDAQ: WDC) company and world leader in storage today introduced new datacenter hard drives that deliver to today's modern datacenter architects the lowest power consumption of any high-capacity 3.5-inch hard drive available today. The WD Re+(TM) hard drive family is the newest component of WD's full, tiered portfolio of high-capacity datacenter storage devices. Further expanding that portfolio will be 6 terabyte (TB) capacities for WD's popular WD Re(TM) and WD Se(TM) datacenter product lines, providing customers a spectrum of capabilities, tiered to their varied demands of application intensity, power optimization and cost efficiency.
In the modern datacenter, the total cost of ownership (TCO) formula is comprised of capacity, price, power consumption and the relationships between these variables. The WD Re+ drive provides the most power efficient and high-intensity high-capacity platform available today.
With power consumption a primary consideration in today's large web-scale cloud infrastructures, and the WD Re+ drive consuming only 6 watts for 6 TB, customers' TCOs increase and savings for large deployments could be millions of dollars per year.
"Dollars and watts are the finite currencies in the modern datacenter," said Matt Rutledge, senior vice president of storage technology at WD. "With a leading watt-per-gigabyte ratio and the long-trusted reliability of the WD Re hard drive platform, WD Re+ offers our customers having limited power budgets a WD Re-class choice for tier-2, high-intensity storage applications. Massive, scale-out deployments must deliver tremendous value to customers across a range of applications, while providing a healthy return to the infrastructure owner. WD is focused on offering that value across its portfolio."
The SATA 6 Gb/s WD Re+ hard drive family features a dense five-platter platform, which renders an optimal mix of low power consumption, high capacity, 24 x 7 x 365-reliability and affordability. Vibration tolerance and Mean Time To Failure (MTTF) are also key considerations in these applications. WD Re+ hard drives deliver 1.2m hours MTTF, enhanced RAFF technology to increase vibration tolerance and a high-intensity workload and reliability rating of 550 TB-per-year workload, the highest workload capabilities of any WD 3.5-inch hard drive. The new WD Re+ and stalwart WD Re share a platform to simplify large-scale deployments and provide the reliability and performance customers have come to expect from WD's datacenter products.
WD's award-winning WD Re platform now offers up to 6 TB for demanding datacenter and cloud storage needs. WD Re hard drives also are designed to handle up to 550 TB per year in high-intensity datacenter applications. They offer SATA interface with up to 6 Gb/s transfer rates and sustained sequential data rates of up to 225 MB/s, delivering performance and reliability needed in any datacenter.
Other datacenter-class features with the WD Re and WD Re+ products include:
Vibration protection - Enhanced RAFF(TM) technology monitors the drive and corrects both linear and rotational vibration in real time. The result is a significant performance improvement in high-vibration environments over the previous generation of drives.
Dual actuator technology - A head-positioning system with two actuators improves positional accuracy over the data track(s). The primary actuator provides coarse displacement using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles. The secondary actuator uses piezoelectric motion to fine tune the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy.
StableTrac(TM) - The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read and write operations.
Multi-axis shock sensor - Automatically detects the subtlest shock events and compensates to protect the data.
RAID-specific, time-limited error recovery (TLER) - Prevents drive fallout caused by the extended hard drive error-recovery processes common to desktop drives.
NoTouch(TM) ramp load technology - The recording head never touches the disk media ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection in transit.
Thermal extended burn-in test - Each drive is put through extended burn-in testing with thermal cycling to ensure reliable operation.
Dynamic fly height technology - Each read-write head's fly height is adjusted in real time for optimum reliability.
Dual processor - Twice the processing power to maximize performance.
3D Active Balance(TM) Plus - Our enhanced dual-plane balance control technology significantly improves the overall drive performance and reliability. Hard drives that are not properly balanced may cause excessive vibration and noise in a multi-drive system, reduce the hard drive life span, and degrade the performance over time.
The WD Se line of datacenter hard drives provide a blend of performance, reliability and capacity specifically designed for SMB to high-end NAS and large-scale datacenter replication environments running 24x7x365. Capacities range up to 6 TB.
Availability
Shipping immediately to customers for qualification WD Re+ drives are covered by a five-year limited warranty. WD Re and WD Se 6 TB hard drives will be available for qualification next quarter. More information about WD's datacenter hard drives can be found on the company website at http://www.wdc.com/en/products/internal/enterprise/ .
