Innovative High-Density RFID Memory from STMicroelectronics Simplifies and Speeds Up Maintenance of Professional Equipment
RFID memory IC increases on-board data storage, unlocking cost of ownership savings
GENEVA, Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- An innovative RFID device from STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a leader in communication and memory ICs, now allows technical equipment to 'talk back,' providing detailed information, such as a full maintenance history, to speed up servicing and simplify record keeping for OEMs and equipment operators.
The new chip, the LRiS64K, combines radio tagging (RFID) circuitry with a large 64-Kbit non-volatile EEPROM capable of storing extensive data, such as initial manufacturer details and complete records of repairs or upgrades. It delivers a unique combination of industry-standard wireless features, rich data storage, secure retention, and long-term reliability.
Engineers servicing equipment such as medical devices, industrial equipment, automotive controllers or avionics modules containing an LRiS64K can access important unit-specific information held directly on the device, by using a standard RFID reader. This on-board storage can eliminate any need to retrieve paper records or access an online database. The unit's service history can be updated in the LRiS64K memory for access during subsequent inspection or servicing. This feature can save downtime and help reduce MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) costs in sectors such as healthcare, aviation, logistics, oil and chemicals, construction, and manufacturing.
The LRiS64K is a long-range 13.56MHz device, based on the international ISO 15693 and ISO 18000-3 mode 1 standards for RFID devices and capable of co-existing with other devices within range. Its integrated tuning capacitor simplifies connection to an external antenna. The memory can retain data for more than 40 years and withstand more than one million write/erase cycles.
Main features of the LRiS64K:

Seeing the Web Through the Lens of People's Opinions
Appinions launches new software platform for media companies and researchers
NEW YORK, Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Appinions(TM) today introduced a whole new way of seeing the Web - through the lens of people's opinions. Instead of reading countless pages of Web content delivered by conventional search tools, Appinions surfaces what really matters, the opinions key influencers are expressing across the Web, social media and blogs.
The technology underlying this game-changing innovation is a suite of easily configurable, opinion-based applications based on a sophisticated opinion extraction and aggregation platform launched by New York-based Appinions. The company currently targets two markets: publishers and media companies on the Web, as well as brand managers, advertisers, marketers and other research organizations.
Appinions is also introducing a number of downloadable online opinion apps that demonstrate how to harness the power of opinions and experience the next generation of Web content presentation.
"Existing search technology is holding back Web-based media and giving them all a tired sameness," said Larry Levy, co-founder and CEO of Appinions. "We are giving media companies a fresh new way to engage readers and keep them on their site, and that has a direct line to driving advertising revenue. For marketers and researchers, we are empowering them to learn at Web-speed what people are saying, most notably key influencers, about the brands, products and related topics they manage."
Appinions is already being used by companies such as The Economist, real-time broadcast monitoring company Critical Mention and educational publisher Cengage/Gale. There are more than half a dozen new customers launching applications in Q1 2011.
Ron Diorio, vice president, product and community development, The Economist Online, said, "Our goal for The Economist Online is to be the premiere destination for intelligent conversation and debate. We worked closely with Appinions to develop the opinion cloud as a feature to help our readers discover conversations across the site. Appinions worked with us to refine and improve the feature's topical results prior to launch. We were able to launch the feature with a satisfied sponsor and with user engagement that exceeded our projected targets."
Applications

Appinions Offers App to Automatically Analyze Torrent of WikiLeaks Documents
NEW YORK, Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ --Appinions Inc., a New York-based software company, is offering organizations access to its novel W3 application that automatically extracts who is saying what about whom in WikiLeaks documents.
Appinions W3(TM) extracts and summarizes opinions from vast volumes of data to give immediate insight into what people and organizations were saying, thinking and feeling about specific issues or people. Appinions W3 is unique in its ability to analyze data on the massive scale required should WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange's threat of a single, massive dump of 250,000 cables become a reality.
"Obviously, we hope that no additional harmful information is released," says Larry Levy, Appinions' co-founder and chief executive. "However, we should be prepared for the deluge that is threatened. We have configured our W3 application to extract the emotive information contained in these cables in real-time so it can be acted upon immediately."
Appinions' W3("W cubed") applications let users search for opinions by keyword, topic or opinion holder. It offers a quick way to understand what people are saying on specific media sites or across the Web about any topic, e.g., the political landscape, sports, celebrities or any other theme.
The efficacy of Appinions' W3 for WikiLeaks has been demonstrated using the 1,095 documents publicly released to date. Interested parties can register for access to Appinions W3 for WikiLeaks to see how it works on these cables at http://appinions.com/contact/configure-w3/, or email wikileaks@appinions.com for more information.
Appinions today launched a new website that helps publishers attract readers and keep them engaged longer; and research companies conducting marketing, product management and competitive intelligence research, quickly gather opinions and identify the key opinion holders and influencers.
"Opinions matter because what people are thinking drives their behavior, be it shopping, voting, choosing where to live, or anything else" says Levy. "We help companies summarize extensive online content to understand who the opinion holders are, and what their opinions are about various political, personal, commercial, brand and other topics being discussed. This offers a level of insight and actionable intelligence not available anywhere else."

"Chris Hadnagy has penned the ultimate text on social engineering. Meticulously researched and teeming with practical applications, this brilliant book offers solutions to very real problems and ever-present dangers to your business - and even to yourself. Truly groundbreaking." -Kevin Hogan, author of The Science of Influence: How to Get Anyone to Say 'Yes' in 8 Minutes or Less
HOBOKEN, N.J., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Social engineering is the act of manipulating a person to accomplish goals that may or may not be in their best interest. This may include obtaining information, gaining access, or getting the target to take certain action. Many times social engineering is used in fraud, identity theft and malicious hacking.
One of the most famous hackers in the world, and later security consultant Kevin Mitnick, popularized the term "social engineering", pointing out that it is much easier to trick someone into giving a password for a system than to spend the effort to hack into the system. He claims it was the single most effective method in his arsenal.
In Social Engineering: The Art of Human Hacking, author Christopher Hadnagy details the world's first framework for social engineering. True stories and case studies from the masters of the art like Mitnick, as well as Hadnagy himself, illustrate each of the principles behind using social engineering to exploit, manipulate and deceive individuals and businesses alike. Chapters include (table of contents PDF download):
-- A Look into the World of Social Engineering.
-- Information Gathering.
-- Elicitation.
-- Pretexting: How to Become Anyone.
-- Mind Tricks: Psychological Principles Used in Social Engineering.
-- Influence: The Power of Persuasion.
-- The Tools of the Social Engineer.
As increasing threats and cases of identity theft, fraud, and deception continue to show up in news stories around the globe it is even more important for consumers, IT staff and security professionals to be aware and prepared to combat them. This book provides a basis for social engineering prevention education along the adage that the best deterrent to a crime is to reveal how the crime is perpetrated. "Most malware and client-side attacks have a social engineering component to deceive the user into letting the bad guys in. You can patch technical vulnerabilities as they evolve, but there is no patch for stupidity, or rather gullibility. Chris will show you how it's done by revealing the social engineering vectors used by today's intruders. His book will help you gain better insight on how to recognize these types of attacks," said Kevin Mitnick, about the book.

The Apache Software Foundation Launches 'Apache Extras' to Accelerate Innovation
Google-hosted site provides a "home-away-from-home" for code associated with Apache projects
FOREST HILL, Md., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) today announced apache-extras.org, the Google-hosted site for code associated with Apache projects that are not part of the Foundation's more than eighty Top-level Projects and dozens of initiatives in the Apache Incubator and Labs.
"The Apache Software Foundation has a long history of software innovation through collaboration; the larger the pool of potential contributors the more innovation we see," said Ross Gardler, ASF Vice President of Community Development. "Apache Extras provides a home for Apache related software which is not formally a part of the ASF itself. Having these projects on a single hosting platform will help to further accelerate innovation involving Apache software."
Among the ASF's strengths are its well-established requirements relating to intellectual property management, license use, and community management. Apache-extras.org provides a home for projects that are unable to, or do not wish to, conform to those rules yet still want to signal their relationship to official Apache projects.
As projects on the new Google-hosted service will not be managed by The Apache Software Foundation, participants are allowed to use whatever license and project management process they desire. Apache-extras.org will provide a level of visibility for these projects that is unavailable on other code-hosting forges.
Existing Google Code projects related to Apache products can be easily migrated to the new apache-extras.org site, whilst those involved with new Apache-related projects can start quickly by filling out a simple form. The ASF Community Development team will work directly with Apache Extras to ensure innovation around Apache projects is accelerated.
Technical queries regarding the ASF's relationship with apache-extras.org can be directed to the ASF Community Development team at dev@community.apache.org. For information on migrating or setting up new projects, visit http://www.apache-extras.org.
About The Apache Software Foundation (ASF)
Established in 1999, the all-volunteer Foundation oversees nearly one hundred fifty leading Open Source projects, including Apache HTTP Server -- the world's most popular Web server software. Through the ASF's meritocratic process known as "The Apache Way," more than 300 individual Members and 2,500 Committers successfully collaborate to develop freely available enterprise-grade software, benefiting millions of users worldwide: thousands of software solutions are distributed under the Apache License; and the community actively participates in ASF mailing lists, mentoring initiatives, and ApacheCon, the Foundation's official user conference, trainings, and expo. SANYO PLC-HF15000L Large Venue Projector Produces Best-in-Class Brightness at 15,000 ANSI Lumens With Greater Than Full HD 2K Resolution, Featuring QuaDrive for Superior Color Accuracy
- Using a four lamp array, projector achieves 15,000 ANSI lumen brightness, the highest in its class
- Combining a High Resolution 2K longer life inorganic LCD panel with SANYO's exclusive QuaDrive technology produces thousands of hours of Full HD resolution with superior color gamut
- Newly developed 'Active Maintenance Cleaner' extends filter life to 12,000 hours, increasing reliability and lowering maintenance cost
- Hot Operation Lamp Exchange System allows replacement without interrupting presentations
- Picture-in-picture and picture-by picture capability
CHATSWORTH, Calif., Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- SANYO North America Corporation, a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., one of the world's largest manufacturers of LCD and DLP projectors, announced today a new professional projector with an extraordinary brightness of 15,000 ANSI Lumens that is unmatched by other projectors in its class. The PLC-HF15000L utilizes SANYO's exclusive QuaDrive(TM) technology to produce superior color accuracy with a very wide color gamut, providing Real 2K digital cinema performance that exceeds Full HD requirements at 2048 x 1080 resolution. Designed for the mid to large venue presentation, staging and digital signage markets, the PLC-HF15000L (lens sold separately) is scheduled for release in December 2010, with an MSRP of $44,995.
The QuaDrive engine advances beyond conventional 3 LCD systems by adding a yellow color control device to the existing red, green and blue elements. The additional control of the amount of yellow light in the image increases color purity and accuracy, produces a wider color gamut and enables higher brightness levels. A new long-life inorganic 2K LCD panel enables the PLC-HF15000L to achieve resolution greater than Full HD in a 17:9 aspect ratio. Housing four high output 380 W lamps and using unique cooling technology, the projector achieves a record brightness of 15,000 lumens in a high-efficiency, energy-saving design. This extraordinary brightness makes it suitable for applications where other projectors may be inadequate, including large exhibition halls and auditoriums and conference rooms, as well as for dramatic digital signage applications.
"By setting a new standard for brightness in its category, and using our most advanced technologies that include QuaDrive, a long life DIOS (Durable Inorganic Optical System) engine and widescreen 2K resolution, the PLC-HF15000L performs superbly in even the largest presentation environments. We see it creating new opportunities for large format digital signage, even in well-lit spaces. Furthermore, its operational flexibility and features enable its effective use in rooms of virtually any size, with low operational and maintenance costs," said Sam Malik, Vice President of SANYO's Digital Solutions Division, and General Manager of the Corporate Solutions Group.
Dust in the optical and mechanical systems of a projector can hurt performance and reduce service life. SANYO's Active Maintenance Cleaner (AMC) system is the most advanced yet, protecting critical components for an incredible 12,000 hours before a filter change is required. By using an intake air volume monitoring system that determines the current effectiveness of the filter, AMC will clean the filter surface automatically based on a time requirement or by using its automatic clog detection capabilities to provide a clean optical surface. Also, while the standard filter will help protect against dust, SANYO is also offering an optional "Smoke Filter" (model POA-FIL160) that can help protect against smoke from sources like cigarettes and other fine airborne particles that could enter the projector. This expands the applications for the projector to more public settings, including those where smoking is permitted without its adverse effects to the optical engine. Both of these systems increase long-term reliability and reduce maintenance costs, especially for installations where the projector is mounted in a difficult to reach location where easy access is difficult.
The PLC-HF15000L is equipped with a "Hot Operation Lamp Exchange System" that allows individual lamps to be replaced without turning the projector off. Previous models required a projector shutdown and restart for all bulb replacements. The new hot-swappable system gives operators a smooth, simple way to replace a failed bulb and continue presentations without interruption.
To allow use in a very wide range of venues, eleven lens options are available in a variety of focal lengths to accommodate any projector to screen distance. A power zoom with focus control can be remotely operated, as can a motorized lens shift that operates both horizontally and vertically for maximum installation flexibility with sacrificing image fidelity.
Where multiple images are required, the PLC-HF15000L can simultaneously display two images, in either picture-in-picture or picture-by-picture modes. For presentations utilizing multiple projectors, aligned either horizontally or vertically to create a single larger image, variations in image quality between projectors is eliminated through SANYO's Edge Blending, Color Matching and Constant Brightness functions. Color Matching corrects for any variations in hue between adjacent images, Edge Blending smoothes the transition point between projected images by compensating for differences in brightness, and Constant Brightness creates uniform brightness across the entire image area.
Built-in LAN networking facilitates control of the projector or a group of projectors through CAT5 network cabling. For presentation applications where necessary, a mechanical shutter system allows operators to instantly shut off light transmission. Input options include HDMI 1.3; DVI-D; D-sub 15 pin RGB; BNC for RGBHV and CV/Y-Pb/Cb-Pr/Cr; and S-Video, with optional boards available for HD/SD-SDI and Dual Link SDI.

Peer39 Partners With the Rubicon Project to Empower Premium Web Publishers With Semantic Intelligence to Capture the True Value of Inventory
REVV for publishers Yield Optimization Platform armed with Peer39's semantic algorithms to drive brand safety, efficiency and revenue performance of ad targeting
NEW YORK, Dec. 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Peer39, the market leader in semantic advertising solutions, today announced integration of its semantic targeting technology on the Rubicon Project's REVV for publishers(TM) yield optimization platform.
Peer39 semantic targeting will analyze billions of pages on the premium Web sites that sit on the REVV platform, classifying them in real-time into advertiser-focused categories based on a true understanding of the meaning of each page, in turn, enabling publishers to capture the true value and most revenue possible.
This partnership will also allow the more than 600 demand sales channels (ad networks, exchanges, DSPs, etc.) that transact in the Rubicon Project's REVV Marketplace to optimize their display advertising campaigns based on Peer39 cookie-free semantic targeting. Peer39 offers value to buyers looking for the most relevant content with which to associate their campaign spend. Furthermore, Peer39's semantic targeting can be utilized in concert with other targeting technologies in order to provide a more robust solution to maximize performance. In addition, its multi-level content filtration system assures even the most family-friendly brands that their ads will appear on pages that are best aligned to their messaging.
"Today, online buyers want to achieve scale on relevant, quality inventory with sensitivity to advertiser brands," said Peer39 CEO Andy Ellenthal. "Our partnership with the Rubicon Project delivers all three: massive scale, content relevance and premium brand alignment. Through the REVV Marketplace, demand sales channels have access to more than 550 million unique users around the globe - providing the scale their customers, the advertisers, are looking for. By combining Peer39's content analysis and classification with the Rubicon Project's REVV platform, advertisers can rest assured that display ads run adjacent to semantically relevant content, and publishers are in turn maximizing revenue."
"In 2011 there will be a renewed understanding of the value of context, and in turn high quality content, in digital media. In an ecosystem where the focus has become heavily skewed toward reaching audiences, the value of context and of content-adjacency has in far too many cases become a secondary consideration," said Ben Trenda, VP REVV Marketplace Development for the Rubicon Project. "As a partner to many of the most premium content brands in the world, including 12 of the top 15 newspapers brands in the U.S. alone, we believe it is in the interest of advertisers and their buying channels as well as premium publishers to restore some sanity by correctly valuing environment alongside audience. Our partnership with Peer39, whose semantic targeting technology improves the efficiency and performance of targeting on the REVV for publishers platform, will help us swing that pendulum."

First WikiLeaks Game Played Over a Million Times Online
AMSTERDAM, December 14, 2010/PRNewswire/ -- Only days after the arrest of Julian Assange and media talks about the
phenomenon WikiLeaks and its editor in chief, the first WikiLeaks video game
popped up.
WikiLeaks: The Game allows players to control Julian Assange trying to
sneak his way through the White House. It attracted a million players during
the first days after release.
Sebastiaan Moeys, producer of the game, shares his surprise about the
popularity of the game: "We didn't plan for this to be a smash hit. We
created it as a sort of joke, a social commentary on a developing story."
"A million plays in just a few days really proves this subject is popular

It's all around the Internet, but I just found out. Some of the highlights that I found interesting are that the hackers (yes, they are of the malicious variety) apparently managed to compromise the entire thing: they downloaded all of Gawker's source code, found out they were running a Linux kernel that's over a year old, and have posted a database that supposedly includes the account information of anyone that has ever posted a comment to a Gawker Media website.
Oh, but it get a little bit worse - plenty of the Gawker Media staff use weak passwords, use the same password for many different accounts, and haven't encrypted the password database of its users - quite ironic, considering Lifehacker's wealth of password security and encryption tutorials.

dzdock "ONE" patent pending universal aluminum stand with unique wire management, designed for optimum video conferencing
BETHLEHEM, Pa., Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The inability of many iPad docks and iPhone docks to accommodate the devices with a case led this 11 year old to invent an iPad stand. He also noticed that although many devices were designed in the USA, few were made in the USA.
His goal was to develop a stand that could:
-- place/remove a device without disconnecting its cable
-- hold a device with/without a skin in both portrait and landscape modes
-- have viewing angles that were optimized for video conferencing
-- have it made in the USA
-- accommodate iPad, Kindle, nook, tablets, iPhone and other smartphones
"One for all and all for One" became their motto.
The inventing bug hit 11-year-old Dino Zaharakis while playing lacrosse in Saucon Valley. He painted some stripes on his helmet so he would stand out among his teammates and his mom could find him. A month later he wanted his lacrosse stick to be unique too. He dyed the head of his stick, a concept his friends loved. To capitalize on that idea, Dino came up with a business plan, which included order forms, a web site and a $5-per color price.
Born in New York City and growing up in the rust-belt city of Bethlehem, PA, Dino knows the importance of hard work, locally-made products and American pride. Bethlehem Steel Corp was once a gem of American industry, having been so powerful that during World War II, its laborers churned out a Navy battleship in a single day. But the plant has been long-shuttered, and a casino now stands where its mighty blast furnaces once roared.
Dino's entrepreneurial spirit blossomed again when his parents reviewed summer camps on the family's iPad. His father had rigged an impromptu iPad stand, but Dino found several design flaws and suggested he could do better. His dad challenged him:
If he could design an iPad dock and web site he could get a phone.
Dino's mind went into high gear. He set to work manipulating pieces of aluminum stock from McMaster-Carr, using a Home Depot miter saw and a vise. He made several prototypes. The favorites were dubbed Curly 3 Stooges, Alpha Slick and Big Z.
Finally, "ONE" was created by including the best features/abilities of each prototype.
With the initial design concept set, Dino's dad took him to Northampton Community College's Fab Lab where they created 3D solid models using Solidworks and later created prototypes using a Dimension 3D printer. A parent on Dino's lacrosse team helped them get dzdock One patent pending.
They approached a local company, Hill Metal Co. in Allentown, PA where their expertise and equipment allowed them to produce real prototypes. Dino's lacrosse coach and owner of Bracalente Manufacturing suggested giving dzdocks an anodized finish.
Next they worked on the web site, packaging, bar codes, listing dzdock on Amazon.com and creating a new corporation named ZLabs, Inc.
In keeping local they chose Pennsylvania based companies, including Electro Space Fabricators for production manufacturing, and IMP for anodizing dzdock.
dzdock One fulfills Dino's vision of a locally manufactured product using locally-sourced materials. Yes, we still can do it.
dzdock One is available for $29.99 in black, white, silver, red, pink, lime and blue at http://www.dzdock.com and Amazon.com. Use the promotional code of "DZPRNEWS" at http://www.buy.dzdock.com until Christmas and you can buy a dzdock for $19.99.

Intelity Adds Room Controls Integration to Its ICE Software
Now Thirty Guest Services Available With the Touch of a Finger.
ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelity has added its newest feature to its ICE (Interactive Customer Experience(TM)) hotel software solution -- Room Controls.
Hotels with room control systems can now have them fully integrated into Intelity's ICE, the only full solution guest service technology.
Room controls becomes the thirtieth (30th) guest service feature in the ICE Touch guest room interface. With the touch of their finger, hotel guests may adjust the lighting, drapes and climate (heat and air conditioning) in their guest rooms from a touch screen or laptop. In larger guest rooms and suites, the settings adjust by location within the suite.
The Room Controls feature appears as part of the ICE guest display that is pictured below. There are four ICE versions with this new feature including ICE Touch (on touch screens including iPads), ICE Mobile (on smart phones), ICE Lobby (on touch screens) and ICE Connect (via guest laptops).
"It's the ultimate convenience for guests and the ultimate competitive advantage for hotels," said David Adelson, CEO of Intelity. "Now, every guest service from in-room dining to housekeeping requests to room controls are a touch away."
Setting the Room Scene
The addition of Room Controls not only serves the guest but helps the environment, too. Hotels can set the guest room controls upon check-in and following check out. That means there will be a comfortable room setting during the guest's stay and an energy saving before the guest arrives and after they check out.
Intelity's system also allows hotels to pre-set controls based upon the preferences of repeat guests or those who express preferences when making their room reservation.
"Guests can have room controls on their smart phones so they make adjustments before they return to their rooms each day," Adelson said. "Extending control and interactivity is what Intelity's ICE is all about."
Innovations
Intelity created the world's first interactive guest service technology presenting the full array of 30 guest services via guestroom touch screens and a "back end" ticket/request/content management tool that measures return on investment and integrates into all hotel (POS, PMS, etc.) systems.
Intelity also developed the first and only full hotel services menu on the iPad tablet; the first and only full hotel services iPhone application; and the first and only full hotel services software for in-room TVs.
About Intelity
Intelity, headquartered in Orlando, Florida, is a hospitality software solution company focused on the self-service marketplace. Its ICE software with guest interface and "ICS" backend management has been recognized in a vote by hoteliers as the best guest interactive service technology available. Intelity designs its software/hardware products with a focus on generating higher hotel revenues, reducing operating costs and increasing guest satisfaction. Intelity leads in mobile hospitality technology with five hotel apps in the iTunes store. Speak With Me, Inc. Introduces First App Built On Its Advanced Natural Language Speech Platform
VoiceDJ(TM), the fastest, most accurate voice-activated app available, allows users to control their music library entirely with their voice
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Speak With Me(TM), a voice-activated technology company that simplifies and enhances the way people interact with consumer electronic devices, today announced the availability of its first consumer app, VoiceDJ(TM). Built on Speak With Me's advanced Natural Language Dialog Platform (NLDP), VoiceDJ is an iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad(1) application that allows users to control their mobile music library entirely with their voice.
Speak With Me's device-based technology platform delivers 99 percent accuracy and decreases voice recognition response time from seconds to milliseconds, providing the fastest, most accurate voice-activated app available(2). VoiceDJ also recognizes nearly 1 million words from a person's vocabulary and can easily handle music libraries with hundreds of thousands of entries. And unlike most other voice solutions, VoiceDJ doesn't need an Internet connection to function so users can enjoy the app anytime, anywhere.
"Our new VoiceDJ app is just the first of many products based on our industry-leading Natural Language Dialog Platform that we plan to roll out in the coming years," said Ajay Juneja, CEO and Founder of Speak With Me, Inc. "While this first app is focused on music and entertainment, future apps will be in many different verticals, including navigation, mobile search, and video games."
Users can simply request their music with natural, conversational style commands instead of having to follow a pre-set script because VoiceDJ uses Speak With Me's natural language search technology to provide a more intuitive user experience. As a result, VoiceDJ allows users to spontaneously change songs, artists, albums or genres as the mood strikes.
Once VoiceDJ is installed, users can create playlists on the fly and control their music with a wide range of commands. For example:
-- "Play 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'" (if multiple versions of the song are
found, it will load them all into a playlist).
-- "I want to hear Eric Clapton" (a playlist of all Eric Clapton music will
be created).
-- "Add Rolling Stones to the Playlist" (all of your Rolling Stones music
will be added to the current playlist)
-- "Next Track"
-- "Previous Track"
-- "Turn it up"
-- "Volume down"
The VoiceDJ app, which is now available in the app store, can be downloaded as a free version (10 spoken commands per day) - or users can pay $1.99 for unlimited use. The app requires an iPhone 3GS or higher, or a 4th Generation iPod Touch running iOS 4.2 or higher. To download the app, please visit http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/voicedj/id404843231?mt=8.
Developed from more than 10 years of academic research at Carnegie Mellon University, VoiceDJ(TM) is being introduced as a first exciting glimpse into a world of possibilities that exist for new User Interfaces with the Speak With Me(TM) platform, which is currently available for iOS 3.2 and higher.
(1) Support for iPad will be coming in January 2011
(2) Based on internal Speak With Me testing, November 2010

Buy a $200 Gift Card to a Major Retailer Like Target for Under $10, While in Your Pajamas!
DALLAS, Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- "Why stand in line for holiday gifts when you can have fun, save money, and shop at the same time?" asks QuickDrawBids.com site owner, Jim Specht. "With the advent of penny auction sites and the amazing deals people are getting, we see no sign of slowing in the growth of this new form of shopping."
What is most surprising, is how much fun you will have bidding. The new penny auction sites like QuickDrawBids.com are gaining popularity because they tap into the competitive side of human nature. "Let's face it. We all want a bargain! When you win a $200 Target gift card and only pay $9.50 for it...well, that's just too good to be true, but that is what is happening on our site every day," said Specht.
Unlike Ebay, where you bid a specific dollar amount, sites like QuickDrawBids.com are "penny auction" sites. This means that you bid only one cent at a time to win gift cards and name brand items from retailers like Home Depot, Best Buy, ToysRUs, Target, Wal-Mart, Shell, Apple, Chili's, and more for just pennies on the dollar.
The economy has taken a toll on everyone this year, and holiday shopping budgets are tighter than ever. With this new online bidding craze, even those on a budget can polish off their entire holiday shopping list without fighting crowds and save 95% or more off retail. The trick is in understanding the bidding process and mastering the game. You must first purchase bid packs, which allow you to participate in a live auction and start bidding. Bid packs can cost anywhere from $0.50 to $1 per bid, depending on the auction site you are using. The bid increases one penny at a time with no time restrictions and no reserves. The highest bidder takes the item. So, if you are the only person bidding on an item, you can literally get it for a penny!
"Typically, I'll get auction items for about a 90% discount. I have been bidding on various penny auction sites like QuickDrawBids.com for a while now, and I can't believe the deals I've made. My kids are going to have a great Christmas!" said Matt Hashem, an avid penny auction buyer.
QuickDrawBids.com is a penny auction site based in the Dallas, TX area. They feature brand name gift cards. Bidding starts at just $0.01 with no reserve. For more information, contact Jim Specht at info@quickdrawbids.com.

More than $520 Million Invested in Illinois Broadband Since June
Significant Job Growth Expected As Result
CHICAGO, Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands more jobs will be created as a result of broadband and wireless investments throughout the state of Illinois, according to the Illinois Technology Partnership's (ITP) second quarterly broadband investment tracker.
More than $520 million in broadband and wireless investments have been announced since the tracker was launched in June 2010. As a result, at least 8,400 jobs could be created and 7 million residences, 300,000 businesses and 8,900 community institutions will be connected to high-speed Internet.
These numbers are potentially much higher, as last quarter the first 4G network upgrades were announced in the city of Chicago. Experts estimate the cost of 4G upgrades at $1.78 billion nationwide, and as the third largest metropolitan city in the country, Chicago can expect to see significant investment and job creation as a result.
Looking at the year ahead, Illinois companies are planning for major external investments in many key technology sectors throughout the state. According to a survey released last week by ITP, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and Open Systems Technologies, many firms have major external investments planned in the areas of broadband, smart grid, network operations and wireless. These investments will directly increase hiring of both full-time and contract employees in areas including mobile and wireless technologies, construction, engineering and information technology.
"More than half of the technology companies surveyed anticipate hiring between at least one and 20 full-time employees. That's up 20 percent from last year," said Lindsay Mosher, executive director of ITP. "As technology companies invest, this will also spur hiring for non-technology related positions in administration, marketing and sales to support this growth."
Last session, the Illinois General Assembly passed, and Governor Quinn signed, legislation to update Illinois' 25-year old telecommunications laws, opening the door for new investment.
"We have been tracking broadband and wireless announcements since June, and in just seven short months, significant investments in our state's high-speed Internet infrastructure have been put forth," said Mosher. "Innovative public policy can attract investment and create jobs - and as this tracker shows, broadband and wireless investments are great economic drivers."

Dynamic Eye Develops LCD Sunglasses; Initiates Funding Effort on Kickstarter.com
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Dynamic Eye (http://www.dyneye.com) announced today that it has completed the technology verification testing stage of its electronically controlled glare reduction sunglasses. Dynamic Eye's LCD sunglasses offer active glare control that is completely unlike and superior to today's passive technologies, and let you see what you need to see. The sunglasses darken only a small spot on each lens instead of the entire lens, so glare sources are dimmed dramatically, while everything else can be seen easily. The products combine sensors, miniaturized electronics, and liquid crystal displays (LCDs) to increase comfort and safety in glare conditions.
To raise capital and identify an early adopter base, Dynamic Eye is offering fans a chance to show their support through monetary pledges at Kickstarter.com. Kickstarteris an online threshold pledge system for funding creative projects. Top pledge levels are essentially preordering the first pairs of LCD sunglasses off the assembly line at a discounted price. The commercialization stage of the product will require additional funding and development, but Kickstarter affords an opportunity for market feedback. Dynamic Eye will then offer the sunglasses to the consumer market at a competitive, premium sunglasses price, and bring the price down as the technology matures.
The sunglasses are being developed for the $2 billion US sunglasses market, as well as for entirely new markets such as fighting headlight glare at night. Company founder and CEO Dr. Chris Mullin states, "Our products let users see more in glare situations than ever before, because they reduce direct glare ten to one hundred times more than any other sunglasses. On the technology side, we have a compelling application for the nascent plastic LCD industry because the application itself requires the lightweight, shatterproof, and bendable characteristics that distinguish plastic from glass."
About Dynamic Eye: The Company was founded to solve the problem of glaring lights by Dr. Chris Mullin, who received his PhD in physics from the University of California at Berkeley. The company has been awarded two patents and is pursuing several more. Dr. Mullin and his team have over thirty years' experience in LCD process development and manufacture.
