ARS Interactive and CellPoint Mobile Partner to Introduce the Only Fully Integrated Mobile Retail Shopping Solution in the United States with Near Field Communication Technology
PALATINE, Ill., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- ARS Interactive and CellPoint Mobile announced their partnership today, as they prepare to introduce the only fully integrated mobile retail shopping solution available in the United States. ARS Interactive plans to unveil the product at the National Retail Federation 2011 Big Show on January 10th and 11th in New York City.
The partnership brings together ARS's over 30 years of retail eCommerce shopping experience, together with CellPoint Mobile's industry-leading enterprise mobile solutions. CellPoint Mobile is also the architect of the National Retail Federation Mobile Commerce Blueprint.
"Over the past 16 years, our clients have continued to look to ARS for thought-leadership both in store and online," says Jay Heavilon, President of ARS Group. "Now, the mobile channel is emerging and ARS Interactive is innovating again and breaking new ground. We have partnered with CellPoint Mobile because they have a fully integrated mobile solution that we believe will change US retail."
Retailers have already begun to adjust to the emergence of mobile shopping. The mobile retail market is predicted to see an annual growth of 24% over the next four years, reaching $12 billion in 2014. This also includes an industry shift in the production and shipping of more smartphones than traditional cellular phones.
ARS Mobile powered by CellPoint will be the only fully integrated mobile retail shopping solution in the United States that combines product information, coupons, customer loyalty and mobile payment into one experience. This will give customers complete shopping control directly from their mobile phones, while providing retailers with a constant customer touch-point inside and outside the store.
"In a market currently dominated by siloed mobile applications, the introduction of our solution will provide shoppers a unified means of engaging with their favorite retail brand," saysKristian Gjerding, CEO of CellPoint Mobile. "Furthermore, it can provide a single access point into retailers' core environments, such as CRM and POS, enabling a targeted view into customer interaction."
The major breakthrough in the ARS Mobile solution is mobile payment. Currently, it is offered through a secure, PCI DSS compliant, web-based program interface that can use both 1-click remote payment and proximity mobile payment. This classifies ARS Interactive and CellPoint Mobile as one of the first companies in the United States to offer Near Field Communication (NFC) based mobile payment. This allows customers to "tap-and-pay" at the register through their mobile phone wallet, once NFC technology is adopted universally in the United States.
A full-service interactive marketing agency that blends award-winning creativity with mobile technology and 15-years of eCommerce experience. For the past 20 years, ARS has been a trusted partner for leading retailers, e-tailers, and major brands. ARS employs over 300 people across three offices.
CellPoint Mobile is a provider of enterprise mobile infrastructure solutions helping businesses take full advantage of the mobile channel. The company's Mobile Enterprise Framework (MEF), Mobile Payments Platform (mPoint), and pre-built industry-specific mobile applications allow enterprises to quickly create new mobile solutions that optimize cost, deliver best-in-class services and increase sales with a scalable, flexible and secure architecture. Xilinx Consumer Video Kit Drives Innovation for 3DTV and Other Digital Displays with More Bandwidth and Standards Support
Xilinx and Tokyo Electron Device Help Alleviate TV OEMs' Challenges of Shorter Market Windows In the Face of Proliferating New High-Definition Technologies
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX) today announced at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show a new version of its popular Spartan®-6 FPGA Consumer Video Kit that gives systems designers a complete development platform for easily tapping into the flexibility and real-time video processing capabilities of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Co-developed with and distributed by Tokyo Electron Device, the Consumer Video Kit supports the latest serial digital TV interfaces, including DisplayPort 1.1a, V-by-One® HS, HDMI(TM) 1.4a (now supporting 3DTV) and LVDS of up to 1.05 Gbps, to help original equipment manufacturers meet the challenges of shorter market windows and focus on the innovation and delivery of stunning 3D, Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED), Quad HD (4K2K resolution) and many other digital display technologies.
"New consumer video technologies like 3DTV and the standards that support them are proliferating like never before as competition and innovation in digital television development pushes the limits of video processing and bandwidth," said Aaron Behman, Senior Marketing Manager, Consumer Segment, at Xilinx. "FPGAs have already made the delivery of 3DTV to consumers possible and are being used by leading manufacturers in their development of new generations of digital TV technologies and features."
At the heart of the Consumer Video Kit is a Xilinx Spartan-6 FPGA, a low-cost, low-power programmable logic device that designers can use to simulate video algorithms in silicon during the development phase and then move into production without having to worry about coding video interface infrastructure. Spartan-6 FPGAs deliver 30% lower power and 15% faster performance than competing FPGAs to support emerging technologies such as locally dimmed LED and super-high resolution 4K2K (Quad HD), which are driving up the bandwidth requirements for next-generation displays.
"Manufacturers of consumer video are challenged to develop innovative 3D and other display technology applications while reducing the overall power consumption of their end equipment," said Masoud Beheshti, worldwide marketing manager, Power Management, TI. "Through this continued collaboration with Xilinx and Tokyo Electron, designers can easily implement TI's digital power management solutions to simulate power consumption in real-time in their FPGA-based designs."
"Aiptek selected Xilinx Spartan FPGAs to get to market first with the world's only pocket camcorder that captures 2D and 3D in high definition," said FH Cheng, Aiptek Vice President of Operations. "While others shoot in lower, VHS-type resolutions, our i2 3D-HD 720 Camcorder captures pristine quality, 720p HD video - the highest resolution for a 3D camcorder priced below $1,000. Xilinx met all of our performance, cost and power requirements, along with the flexibility to support new and evolving video standards. The company's strategy to offer a complete Targeted Design Platform for digital display design gives companies like Aiptek a fast path to low-cost innovation. Building upon our success with the i2 3D, we're planning to support full HD in 1080p with a larger screen with our next-generation camcorder."
Xilinx will be demonstrating the Aiptek camcorder and other customer innovations at CES Suite #MP25333.
Xilinx Consumer Video Kit Drives Innovation for 3DTV and other Digital Displays
The Spartan-6 FPGA Consumer Video Kit 2.0 is one of many market and application-specific Targeted Design Platforms from Xilinx and its network of third-party vendors that provide system designers with simpler and smarter methodologies for creating FPGA-based system-on-chip solutions. Targeted Design Platforms enable software and hardware designers to leverage open standards, common design methodologies, development tools, and run-time platforms so they can spend less time developing the infrastructure of an application and more time building differentiating features into their products. In addition to domain-optimized silicon devices, these platforms include IP (intellectual property) cores, design environments and reference designs, along with a base set of digital audio/video development boards and industry-standard FPGA Mezzanine Cards (FMCs) supporting specific video interfaces (1.05 Gbps LVDS, DisplayPort 1.1a (Tx/Rx), V-by-One HS and HDMI 1.4a).
The Spartan-6 FPGA Consumer Video Kit has been refreshed since its introduction at the CES 2010 as part of Xilinx and Tokyo Electron Device's continuous efforts to improve the out-of-the-box experience for designers. In addition to HDMI 1.4a support for immediate 3D development and new power-management modules from Texas Instruments, the Consumer Video Kit 2.0 increases video processing bandwidth in several ways, including:
-- Multi channels of 1.05 Gbps LVDS
-- DDR3 memory for frame buffering with memory bus increased from 32bits to
48bits
-- FMC user I/Os increased from 250 to 312, providing access to increased
bandwidth
For more information about Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms for Consumer applications, including a video demonstration of the Consumer Video Kit, please visit http://www.xilinx.com/esp/consumer/index.htm.
"The Xilinx Consumer Video Kit supports the need for development environments that enable designers to stay on schedule as standards such as DisplayPort 1.1a and V-by-One HS evolve," said Randy Lawson, Manager and Principal Analyst, Display and Consumer Electronics at iSuppli. "Development platforms such as the Xilinx Consumer Video Kit 2.0 help to enable the adoption of FPGAs, allowing new features to be introduced into consumer electronic products sooner than fully integrated solutions would allow, due to the expense often incurred when transitioning SoC solutions to smaller geometries below 90nm."
Pricing & Availability
The Spartan-6 FPGA Consumer Video Kit 2.0 is available for order entry today from Xilinx Alliance Program member Tokyo Electron Device under the Inrevium brand name. Designers can purchase the entry-level foundation kit with LVDS and FPGA Mezzanine Connection (FMC) support for $1,395. The fully featured Consumer Video Kit Pro 2.0 which includes HDMI 1.4a TX & RX FMCs, DisplayPort, V-by-One HS, & LVDS FMC support is priced at $3,395. FMC cards supporting USB 3.0 and SATA Gen 2 are scheduled to be available at the end of Q1 2011. Please visit http://www.xilinx.com/esp/consumer/index.htm for more information.

'Hybrid Cloud?' Check Processing Through 'Thick' and 'Thin'
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In business, the concept of "the cloud," a metaphor for Internet-based computing where shared servers provide resources, software, and data to computers and other devices on demand, has become so popular that it has even made its way into pop culture television advertisements. CheckAlt Payment Solutions, a leading provider of innovative, patented Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) check processing services, announced its "Hybrid Cloud" environment for check processing, incorporating the best computer-based software solutions with Internet accessibility.
"We want to announce this feature of our service because of the advantages it provides our clients," said Shai Stern, CEO and Co-Chair for CheckAlt. "Our Remote Deposit Capture and Check21 processing services benefit two distinct markets very well. Using the hybrid 'cloud' and 'non-cloud' environments enables our clients to provide the best service possible to their members."
CheckAlt Payment Solutions offers the most efficient, cost effective Remote Deposit Capture process for merchants to receive payments from their customers. Their Check21 solution for Credit Unions uses the same safe, patented technology and software, and it enables Credit Unions nationwide to forward deposited items to the Federal Reserve Banks without having to go through an intermediary Corporate Credit Union or Commercial Bank.
The CheckAlt software resides on their user's computers; it allows clients to scan, process data, collect images, and safely store them in a local virtual lockbox without having become bogged down by lackluster Internet connections or bandwidth lag. All check scanning, data verification, user set-up, and designation of one or more bank accounts is handled in this manner. Because the CheckAlt service solution connects directly to the Internet and uploads in safe, encrypted scanned batches, it is classified as a "Thick Client." Most competing solutions use a "Thin Client," which is a process that scans images serially direct to the Internet. The largest advantage for CheckAlt clients is the speed and security of scanning checks without the danger of the Internet bogging down the image capture process and stopping mid batch. These disruptions can lead to duplicate check deposits when a check is re-scanned or missing items that the user assumed had been scanned into "the cloud" but had not, in fact, been received.
In CheckAlt Payment Solution's cloud, users can approve or hold batches, review individual checks, and remove individual items from batches before they are uploaded. In addition, they can easily generate and download reports, data, and check images. Supervisory functions are the focus of their internet control panel empowering management to focus on customer service and member satisfaction instead of actual check processing.
About CheckAlt:
CheckAlt Payment Solutions is among the country's premier payment processing companies providing Check21 services allowing businesses nationwide to utilize its eCheck and patented Remote Desktop Capture (RDC) systems to improve their top and bottom lines. The CheckAlt eCheck is the "email a check" solution that allows businesses from merchants and property managers to universities and non-profits to maximize cash flow and accounting accuracy. CheckAlt's unique RDC empowers businesses such as credit unions and community banks by enabling them to locally deposit scanned checks virtually while reducing associated Internet transaction processing costs. Streamlined clients experience the benefits of receiving funds in less than 12 hours without having to change banks or accounting systems. Swift, simple, and safe: CheckAlt Payment Solutions is the smartest way to do business. Learn more at: http://www.checkalt.com.

Made for Children, Loved by Parents, Tam & Tao in Numberland, the Educational iPad/iPhone App is Awarded "Mobile of the day" by the FWA
PARIS, January 6, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Les Trois Elles Interactive today announced that Tam & Tao in Numberland,
their Montessori-based educational iPhone/iPad app for kids, has received the
FWA Mobile Of The Day (MOTD) Award.
The award is attributed on 5 criteria: Creativity, Originality, Design,
Content, and Personality.
"We've received a lot of positive feedback from parents who are looking
for an alternative to video games. They loved the graphics of our app, its
educational value, and also its rhythm which is interactive enough to keep
kids interested, yet doesn't contribute to getting them wound-up. This award
comes as another great recognition and we are very proud," says one of the
Founders.
FWA is an industry-recognized award program, established in 2,000,
showcasing projects which use cutting-edge technology, together with
inspirational ideas, that lead the way for future generations.
Les Trois Elles Interactive (http://www.lestroiselles.com) was founded by
three women, two Montessori teachers and a Marketing specialist. Their first
app, Tam & Tao in Numberland, makes learning numbers a magical adventure!
The unique artwork of this app is a refreshing rupture from typical video
games. It takes kids through 10 beautifully animated scenes, each one
presenting a number. Children's books inspired illustration, with a
paper-collage feel, contrasts with the high-tech screen.
Based on the Montessori Method, the app is also an efficient tool to help
kids not only learn but also understand the concept of numbers: count,
practice and write, associate a quantity with a symbol. Children learn
effortlessly, and are proud of their work. Isn't self-confidence the most
wonderful present we can give our children?
Kids will experiment while having fun: get the nine-eyed monster out of
its hiding-place, find out what's hidden in the treasure chest, find out what
happens when all the stars disappear... All these activities will keep them
coming back for more, especially if parents lead them: "Let's count the
trees", "Be careful, jellyfish sting!" ... It will become a moment of bonding
that both children and parents will appreciate!
Tam & Tao in Numberland is an English/French app, available on the
AppStore in the Education section. A Spanish version will be released in
February.

help position them as the 'go to' people for new projects."
The key to AdderLink Infinity's broad and varied adoption is its
flexibility. Depending how you configure your IP network, AdderLink Infinity

dB Logic Launches Two New Earphone Products to Ensure Healthy Listening
Sound Pressure Level Measurement Meter and SPL2 Adapter for use with Earbuds Now Available
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- (2011 International CES, South Hall Lower Level #MP25550) -- dB Logic today announced two new earphone accessory products, the SPL Meter and the SPL2 Adapter with dB Logic's award-winning SPL2 technology. The dB Logic SPL Meter is the first device that allows consumers to measure the volume of music coming through their existing earbuds or in-ear monitors (IEMs) to ensure the volume is at safe listening levels. The dB Logic SPL2 Adapter utilizes the company's proprietary SPL2 technology and is designed to attach to existing earbuds, to limit volume levels as needed while seamlessly preserving the original musical content.
dB Logic's compact SPL Meter is designed to measure sounds from earbuds and in-ear monitors. Consumers can easily hold the earbud or in-ear monitors up to the meter and get a reading of how loud the music is playing. This allows the user to better understand the sound pressure levels they are experiencing(1). Without a meter or measurement tool, it can be difficult for consumers to measure or estimate volume. In addition, the Meter can also measure ambient sound levels, such as concert volume, automotive stereo volume, or crowd noise.
The dB Logic SPL2 Adapter features the company's award-winning SPL2 technology, which limits volume levels using advanced circuitry and eliminates the need for bulky battery-powered processors required by competitive sound pressure limiting products. This product is simply plugged into a consumer's existing audio device, and then the earbuds plug into the adapter. With many consumers already owning earbuds, this device provides security and helps avoid hearing damage due to long-term exposure to high sound pressure levels without having to purchase a new set of earbuds. SPL2 technology maintains the integrity of the sound so the limiting is virtually transparent to the listener and the audio content does not sound clipped or distorted.
"The dB Logic SPL Meter and SPL2 Adapter are complementary to our headphones and earphones, and provide consumers an easy way to determine if they are listening at safe sound pressure levels with products they currently own," said Med Dyer, co-founder and chief technology officer at dB Logic. "dB Logic's SPL2 technology is core to all of our products and the SPL Meter and SPL2 Adapter continue with the company's mission to ensure that consumers can protect their hearing without sacrificing audio quality."
Pricing and Availability
The battery-powered SPL Meter will be available for $49.95 MSRP and the SPL2 Adapter will be available for $19.95 MSRP. Both products will be available on the dB Logic website (http://www.dblogic.com) in January 2011.
About dB Logic
dB Logic is a leading provider of headphones and earphones with sound pressure level limiting technology for teenagers, adults and children. dB Logic's mission is to provide consumers with stylish and comfortable products that deliver the ultimate personal audio experience while helping to limit the risk of long-term hearing damage. Gracenote Creates a Music Experience to Match Your Mood
Discover Technology Redefines Music Recommendations and Lets Consumers Build Their Own Music Channels Based on Mood, Tempo, Genre and Origin
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumer Electronics Show (CES) -- Gracenote® today announced the next generation of its Discover(TM) music recommendation technology, which will feature the use of sonic attributes such as Mood and Tempo and music descriptors like Genre, Origin, Era and Artist Type, to deliver smarter, more relevant track, artist and album recommendations as well as enable customers to offer personalized, one-touch Music Channels. The technology will allow music services to deliver a personal music experience for consumers when and where they want it, from mobile phones, tablets and media players to the desktop, connected televisions and other home digital entertainment devices.
Personalized Music Channels
With the average person now listening to 17 to 19 hours of music per week and Cloud-based music services featuring millions of songs, the need for highly targeted music recommendations and channels is evident. Because music listeners can experience a range of emotions throughout their day, Discover's Music Channels are designed with the ability to match music with a consumer's mood by using Gracenote's sonic attribute technology to extract the "mood profile" of more than 30 million global music tracks.
Gracenote's mood profiles are comprised of more than a hundred mood characteristics, ranging from Sensual to Melancholy to Peaceful to Rowdy. Music fans can also customize their Mood Channels or further refine them by Genre, Era and other characteristics. For instance, a music fan would be able to request a Rowdy (Mood), Fast (Tempo), 1980s (Era), British (Origin), Punk (Genre) Channel.
The first partner to implement Gracenote's Music Channels is Omnifone®, the world's leading independent provider of Cloud-based music services, which will use Gracenote Discover to deliver smarter, more relevant song recommendations and mood-based Music Channels across the award winning MusicStation Platform digital music services it provides to consumer electronics vendors, mobile carriers, broadband providers and automotive vendors globally.
"Gracenote Discover guides the consumer through the vast catalogue of repertoire provided by Omnifone's unlimited music services," said Rob Lewis, executive chairman of Omnifone. "Partnering with Gracenote enables us to provide users with relevant and engaging music choices for channel based services and 'You Might Like' recommendations."
Discover Makes Music Personal
Gracenote's Discover is a one-stop resource for Cloud-based music services, app developers and device manufacturers to drive differentiation from competitors and realize new revenue streams through improved listener retention, sales and customer loyalty. Discover can be quickly and easily integrated within a customer's infrastructure, allowing for fast deployment globally.
"With the dizzying array of choices consumers have to access and listen to music, Cloud services need to understand what their fans really want," said Stephen White, senior vice president of product and content management for Gracenote. "Recommendations have become a vital tool for promoting content, and Gracenote's Discover offers the most powerful way to provide a personal music experience for the consumer."
Imagery Transforms the Mood-based Music Experience
Imagery is now a "must-have" for music fans to help them search and explore for artists and buy new music. Through an agreement with Getty Images Inc., a leading creator and distributor of digital media, Gracenote will offer users access to a rich bank of diverse photographs and illustrations to further enhance their music experience.
Gracenote has developed a mechanism to map the creative characteristics of music and visuals to each other to create a unique visual experience - within Music Channels or at the track level - using Getty Images' vast database of creative assets. As a specific music track changes the mood or tempo of the playlist, the images displayed with that song shift to suit the music. The result for music fans is a more visually appealing experience with vibrant Getty Images that match the mood of their favorite songs. This capability from Gracenote will be available later in 2011.
Discover at CES 2011
Gracenote will demonstrate Discover and how it works to enhance music recommendations, create personal Music Channels, and deliver images that match the moods of a song at CES 2011 in the Gracenote booth No. 31106 in South Hall 3 of the LVCC. For more information or to schedule a demo and briefing at the show, please contact Veronica Skelton at 415.342.3435 or veronica@conceptpr.net.

LAS VEGAS, BASKING RIDGE, N.J., and SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --From the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless and Cisco today announced Verizon Wireless will be the first service provider to deliver a fourth-generation (4G) wireless version of Cisco Cius(TM), a purpose-built, mobile collaboration business tablet that will be available in Spring 2011. The 4G LTE network will help deliver exceptional enterprise mobility to Cisco Cius customers while capitalizing on higher-speed data networks to further enable anytime access.
Both companies also announced the industry's first 4G wireless wide area network (WAN) interface on the Cisco(®) second-generation Integrated Services Router (ISR G2), which will enable Verizon Wireless' 3G and 4G enterprise and small and medium-sized business customers to drive innovation and create new business models.
The new Cisco 4G LTE Enhanced High-Speed WAN Interface Card (EHWIC) integrates with the Cisco ISR G2 and is part of Cisco's comprehensive next-generation mobile Internet architecture deployment at Verizon Wireless, which spans from the cell towers to the network core, to support a wide range of intelligent mobile devices and applications.
In addition, Verizon Wireless is adding the Dynamic Mobile Network Routing (DMNR) capability to its 4G LTE offers. DMNR is based on Network Mobility (NEMO) support in the Cisco IOS(®). This enables the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network to deliver the nation's fastest wireless WAN experience and transform the way business customers integrate and scale wireless to wireline private networks.
Taken together, these technologies and Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network enable businesses seeking to improve agility and operational flexibility.
The Cisco 4G LTE ISR G2 solution and Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network deliver a high-speed, reliable wireless WAN experience, enabling customers to create radically new business models at significantly lower costs. The Cisco 4G LTE ISR G2 solution enables a range of services for remote and branch offices to mobile collaboration devices like the Cisco Cius, which will deliver anytime access to a variety of Cisco collaboration offerings along with additional business and Android applications.
The Cisco solution and Verizon Wireless service also remove barriers to deploy high-performance, media-rich applications over a wireless WAN link and are ideal for supporting everything from enterprise branch offices to mobility devices like the Cisco Cius, a first-of-its-kind, 7-inch diagonal, high-resolution color, touch-target mobile collaboration tablet.
"Enterprises have come to know they can rely on Cisco and Verizon Wireless to put the business communication and collaboration tools they need in their hands. Together we're taking the next step with the combination of the Cisco Cius mobile collaboration tablet and Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network. Collaboration delivered over 4G LTE will be a whole new level of access for enterprise users," said Janet Schijns, vice president, Business Solutions Group at Verizon Wireless.
"Knowledge workers are no longer tethered to a desk, and they require mobile devices to enable communications, collaboration and a computing solution in a form factor that is sanctioned by the IT organization," said Steve Slattery, vice president and general manager, IP Communications business unit, Cisco. "The Cisco Cius, running on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, addresses just that and is optimized to deliver a superior experience for business productivity."
"The 4G LTE Interface card on the Cisco ISR G2 platform is a game changer for our customers, including Verizon Wireless, who are now able to deploy a rich set of productivity-enhancing solutions across its 4G LTE network," said Praveen Akkiraju, senior vice president and general manager, Service Routing Technology Group, Cisco. "Our collaboration with Verizon Wireless enables enterprises and small and medium-sized businesses to create innovative services such as next-generation video-enabled ATMs and 'Shop-in-a-Box' retail solutions."
The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless' 3G network. Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company's entire 3G coverage area over the next three years.
The Cisco 4G LTE ISR G2 and Cisco Cius solutions will be highlighted from Jan. 6-9 in Verizon Wireless' booth (#35216 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center) at CES. Automaker Invests in Start-Up to Do Away With Charging Cords
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- General Motors and Powermat, a pioneer in wireless charging technology, announced a commercial agreement today that will eliminate the need for charging cords for personal electronic devices in many future Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac products beginning mid-2012.
GM Ventures, the company's venture capital subsidiary, will invest $5 million in Powermat to accelerate the technology's development and support efforts to grow Powermat's business globally.
Powermat's technology allows electronic devices - smart phones, MP3 players and gaming devices - to be charged safely and efficiently, according to Powermat CEO Ran Poliakine.
The Chevrolet Volt, conceived as a reinvention of the automobile that would help reduce America's dependence on oil, while providing the assurance of an extended driving range, will be one of the first GM vehicles to offer this technology. The technology is expected to revolutionize how electronic devices are charged in a car.
"Imagine a mat or shelf where you could put your iPhone, your Droid or other personal device and charge it automatically while you commute to work, run errands or as you're driving on a family vacation," said Micky Bly, GM's lead electronics executive, including infotainment, hybrids and battery electric vehicles.
"The Chevy Volt will be one of the first applications, but we intend to expand it across our vehicle portfolio," Bly said.
Powermat, a private firm, was founded in 2007 and offers wireless charging products for the home in a number of retail stores, including Best Buy, Target and Wal-Mart.
Poliakine is excited to start with the Chevrolet Volt, which has swept major Car of the Year awards to date.
"GM is among the rarest of giants in today's business climate: a forward-thinking innovator with the courage and good sense to care about the well-being of the consumer and the well-being of our planet," Poliakine said.
Jon Lauckner, who helped create the Volt concept and now is President of GM Ventures, has been dreaming about a technology like Powermat for years.
"We first developed the Volt concept car in 2006," Lauckner said. "The intent was to revolutionize every aspect of the car, not just the propulsion system. We had something like this in mind even then, and we think it will have widespread appeal."

omNovia Releases Recast, World's First Interactive Webinar Replay
HOUSTON, Jan. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- omNovia Technologies, a leading global provider of web conferencing, high quality webinars, engaging online trainings and live event HD video webcasting solutions, announced the full release of its patent-pending Recast technology. Recast is omNovia's unique webinar recording technology that creates on-demand interactive replays. Upon playback, all interactive features of the live event are available, exactly as if the viewer was watching the live session.
omNovia's Recast also provides significant savings in cost and time by offering a new way to repurpose recorded webinars. "We have been using live webinars to communicate with our clients. As an organization with offices in many countries throughout the world, we would have to have several live webinars with the same exact content to overcome the differences in time zones. But now omNovia's Recast allows us to use the content we already have to deliver interactive, on-demand webinars around the clock," said Victoria Poor, Public Relations and Events Manager at Thomson CompuMark, a business unit of Thomson Reuters.
While recorded webinars give attendees the opportunity to watch a webinar at their own convenience, no matter their schedule or time zone, current technologies offer only one-way communication by producing large-file movies with no interactivity at replay time. "omNovia's Recast is unique among web conferencing recording and playback technologies," said Ken Molay, renowned industry expert and president of Webinar Success. "I have been quite impressed with the ability to play back recorded content inside a live session. Audience members can interact with polls, links, and text chat as if the content was truly live, and presenters can add live content such as Q&A or screen reconfiguration even while the playback continues."
"We believe interaction creates connection," said Shawn Shadfar, CEO of omNovia Technologies. "If your attendees can interact with you by typing questions, answering polls or downloading presentation materials, you will significantly improve their level of engagement and comfort, as well as their overall experience. This will positively influence how they think about you, your company and your products. Until now, such interactivity was limited to live webinars. What makes Recast revolutionary is its unique ability to combine the flexibility of on-demand webinars with the interactivity of live webinars," Shadfar added.
Recast requires no software installations and keeps the original audio and video quality during the replay.
omNovia Technologies(TM) is a leading global provider of online meetings, high-quality webinars, engaging online trainings and live event webcasting solutions for small business meetings and large-scale enterprise conferences. omNovia's high-quality web conferencing platform offers the best online meeting experience with a unique capacity of 5,000 simultaneous participants in an interactive web-based environment. omNovia's live event webcasting solution, StageToWeb, provides HD live-video streaming, integrated voice and interactive tools.

Innovative, Non-Downloadable, Voice-Centric Software will Delight Mobile Device Manufacturers
CHICAGO, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In today's mobile world, what is faster than text messaging or voicemail? No, not Superman. Voice technology. Texting may appear to be the current hot trend, but TIP Solutions, Inc. believes voice is about to make a revival with the intriguing features of Got-Call(TM) and Hold-On!(TM) voice-centric smartphone features.
John Braun, President and CEO of TIP Solutions, Inc. says their mission is to "change the way the world answers a phone call."
TIP Solutions offers differentiated, non-downloadable, voice-centric software that cannot be replicated within today's popular downloadable applications markets. Their software allows smartphone users to never miss a call again by automatically providing a caller with a personalized call receipt message while a user's phone is off-network or turned off. Recently granted their method and device patents, TIP Solutions not only has the next big idea, but it's proven, tested and ready-for-market. Mobile device manufacturers and carriers should take note. Expanding 3D
The 2011 BRAVIA line includes 16 new 3D models that deliver outstanding performance with Sony's active shutter technology. Building on last year, the new line offers affordable 3D entry models all the way up to Sony's top-of-the-line flagship models that pack best-in-class picture quality with every feature for the complete entertainment experience.
Improvements to this year's 3D models include panel drive enhancements that deliver quicker response time helping to reduce crosstalk, 5:5 pull down for a more realistic cinematic movie experience, and built-in 3D emitters on all 3D models.
Expanding the 3D content users can view, the new BRAVIA 3D capable models can display 3D images taken with Sony's new Cyber-shot cameras like the DSC-WX9 via USB input.
Driving Picture Quality
From full HD 1080p Blu-ray Disc, to broadcast HD, to user-generated Internet Video content, processing of incoming content is essential for an excellent picture. To this end, Sony has upgraded the BRAVIA processing power with the new X-Reality PRO and X-Reality Engine digital video processors.
The X-Reality PRO Engine is a two-chip digital video processor that optimizes high definition content, compressed HD signals, standard definition, and other sources including low resolution Internet content. Utilizing a vast database of "ideal" signal patterns developed by analyzing and indexing and enormous library of film and video, the X-Reality PRO Engine compares incoming signals pixel-by-pixel with ideal scenes to display vivid and detailed images.
Additionally, the engine's multi-frame analysis helps create missing resolution and Sony's Super Bit Mapping technology incorporates 14 bit up-scaling, processing and pixel mapping to smooth gradation and improve the quality of low-tone pictures.
Found in select models, the single chip X-Reality Engine utilizes Sony's Intelligent Image Enhancer technology to deliver outstanding picture quality. Incoming video is separated into constituent parts (outline, texture, and color/contrast), and the appropriate image enhancement is added to each part. The engine also uses Intelligent MPEG Noise Reduction to automatically detect the incoming sources and noise level to apply the appropriate amount of noise reduction for each scene.
Also new for select models is Sony's Intelligent Peak LED Backlight which uses full array local dimming for deeper blacks, while also boosting brightness in lighter scenes creating incredible on-screen contrast, while Sony's OptiContrast panel elevates the picture to the front surface of the TV and creates a dark background for rich, vibrant, high contrast picture even in well-lit rooms.
Sony's MotionFlow(TM) XR builds on previous versions of the company's motion compensation technology and helps to reduce blur caused by quick camera movements, enhancing sharpness and creating a clearer picture.
Simplifying User Interface and Functionality
Select new BRAVIA models feature Sony's improved user interface that delivers uninterrupted viewing and intuitive navigation. Retaining the intuitive operation of the award-winning Xross Media Bar (XMB(TM)), the new UI provides uninterrupted viewing by disseminating the video and placing key menu functions and favorites along the bottom and side of the picture frame.
Additionally, the models feature an improved remote control and offer control via the Media Remote application on iPhone, iPod Touch or Android mobile device. The app, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or the Android Marketplace, functions as a full remote with keyboard, allows online content search, and playback.
