4Home and Verizon Wireless Showcase Connected Home Services for 4G LTE Network
At CES 2011, 4Home Demonstrates Jointly Developed Energy Management, Home Monitoring and New Mobile Broadband Services with Verizon Wireless
LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --From the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), 4Home Connected Solutions, a division of Motorola Mobility, Inc., today announced connected home services that leverage the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network. Real-time remote monitoring and control of consumers' homes and their energy consumption will be possible using select smartphones. This collaboration between 4Home and Verizon Wireless will be showcased during CES at the Verizon Wireless booth.
"4Home has been working with Verizon Wireless and the LTE Innovation Center for more than a year to develop these second-generation connected home services for LTE," said Jeff Crews, director of business development at 4Home. "Offering these kinds of value-added services over LTE only enhances the customer experience. Homeowners can enjoy faster response times and real-time, high-quality video streaming when viewing their homes from Verizon Wireless LTE-enabled handsets."
Overview of Connected Home Services and LTE
Connected home services are a new generation of consumer services that allow users to remotely monitor and control the connected devices in their homes, individually and as a system. The services currently include energy management, home security and monitoring, home health, and media management. The 4G LTE network allows these services to be offered on compatible phones, further enhancing the mobile experience.
"Verizon Wireless' ongoing work with 4Home through the Innovation Center is a great example of how a collaborative approach will result in consumer- and business-friendly solutions," said Brian Higgins, executive director, LTE ecosystem development at Verizon Wireless. "Connected home services are made better by the power and capabilities of our 4G LTE network."
Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network is the fastest, most advanced 4G mobile network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than its 3G network. In addition, the company is turning on its 4G LTE network at more than 60 commercial airports, most within the 38 initial market launch areas and some outside those areas, for added convenience for road warriors. The company's 4G LTE network ultimately will connect a full range of electronic devices and machines to each other.
"We continue to see more leading service providers entering the connected home market," said Bill Ablondi, director of home systems research at Parks Associates. "Not only is this suite of services an ideal extension of service providers' current offerings; our research shows that consumers desire to be connected to their homes as well as other people. It looks like 2011 will be the year the smartphone becomes the next generation of universal remote controller."
More information on the connected home services running on Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE network from Jan. 6-9 in Verizon Wireless' booth (#35216 in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center) at CES. (no external power supply required).
"USB is the most successful computer peripheral interface in the world
with over 10 billion devices shipped in the market to date," said
Huibert Verhoeven, Vice President and General Manager, High-Speed
Products Group at Intersil. "Icron and Intersil's new 20-meter USB 3.0
cable development shows how consumers can have ultimate flexibility in
deploying new USB 3.0 devices wherever they want without distance
limitations."
"By combining two best of breed technologies, Intersil's Q:Active
technology and Icron's ExtremeUSB(R) technology, we were able to jointly
develop an extended reach USB cable that not only is the industry's
first and supports new and legacy USB devices, but also serves the
different markets and applications in the home and office." said Robert
Haefling, CEO at Icron Technologies.
Applications of the 20-meter USB 3.0 extension cable include:
-- Remote video terminals with touch screens

Visteon Brings Smart Connectivity Solutions Into the Vehicle
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- To provide smart connectivity solutions in vehicles while addressing the growing need to minimize driver distraction, Visteon Corporation (OTC: VSTO) has developed a range of electronics products, services and applications designed specifically for the automotive market from a driver-centric perspective.
At the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Visteon is demonstrating its scalable open source infotainment platform that is slated to launch later this year. Its design allows vehicle manufacturers the flexibility to offer customers an embedded connectivity solution with optional features and services such as off-board navigation and remote diagnostics, as well as a suite of consumer-focused applications that can be downloaded after vehicle purchase.
"With the significant growth in smart phones and other personal connectivity devices, vehicle manufacturers are looking for innovative solutions that allow users to access content on their mobile devices in a safe and controlled manner while in their vehicles," said Christian Feltgen, global director of cockpit technologies for Visteon's electronics group.
"Working with both Intel and ARM-based designs, Visteon has set a new benchmark in infotainment solutions that will align with new software standards developed through the GENIVI Alliance - of which Visteon is a founding member," Feltgen added.
Visteon is working with other technology providers to bring active screen replication solutions that can control exactly what and how content is displayed. This enables the vehicle manufacturer to maintain a vehicle user interface that allows the driver to stay focused on driving. Additional solutions are under development that help manage the driver's mobile phone while the vehicle is moving.
At CES 2011, Visteon is showcasing a range of smart phone applications that support connectivity solutions. Examples include applications that convert a mobile phone to a remote device for music apps like Internet radio and traffic apps such as Visteon's own TrafficJamCam. Available for purchase on the iTunes® online store, TrafficJamCam lets users see current traffic conditions on highways and other major roadways of their choosing, faster and more accurately than typical radio updates or other traffic reports. This allows them to plan or change their driving routes based on current traffic or road conditions.
In addition to higher feature infotainment systems, Visteon also offers entry level solutions such as the hands-free, voice-activated Bluetooth® wireless solution that enables users to send or receive calls or play music directly through the vehicle's audio system using convenient steering wheel controls.
Visteon is a leading global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures innovative climate, electronic, interior and lighting products for vehicle manufacturers. Visteon Enhances How Drivers Interact With Increasing Array of Features in Vehicles
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Visteon Corporation (OTC: VSTO) is highlighting its industry-leading solutions for improving how drivers interact with features in their vehicles at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 6-9.
With vehicle feature content rapidly increasing and more technology becoming standard, automotive user interface design (menu logic, graphics and physical controls) is becoming increasingly important to mitigate driver distraction.
However, as consumers demand more engaging and intuitive user interfaces, auto manufacturers are looking to develop human machine interaction (HMI) and user experiences that are aligned with and reinforce their vehicle brands. Addressing this need, Visteon has developed a new range of high-definition graphic display platforms, physical control interface solutions and supporting HMI tool chains that bring together the software, graphics and physical elements. These enhancements, which can be reconfigured for specific vehicle applications, can greatly reduce auto manufacturer development times while increasing design flexibility.
Vehicle manufacturers are trying to reduce system complexity on global platforms while addressing the desire for regional variances. Visteon has developed a "plug-and-play" flexible HMI gateway that can interact with a range of physical interfaces in the vehicle - from traditional knobs, buttons and touch screens to more advanced solutions including programmable haptics and gesture recognition.
For the premium vehicle market, Visteon is introducing an HD graphics platform that brings leading-edge consumer electronic graphics into the car with sharper and crisper images. The new Visteon platform brings together consumer electronics (CE) micro-technology from Freescale and a market-leading CE user interface development tool. This unique automotive-grade solution enables vehicle manufacturers to design graphics on a PC and port concepts directly onto the platform.
"While consumers want their vehicles to share some of the advanced capabilities of their CE devices, they also value safety and ease of use," said Michael Tschirhart, Ph.D., human factors technical fellow and research and development manager at Visteon. "Visteon's newest platforms provide our customers with the tools to deliver new and interesting features while simultaneously reducing interface complexity."
For entry-level vehicles and emerging markets, Visteon has a new range of low-cost display platforms. Visteon's LCD HMI tool chain enables manufacturers to bring high-impact graphics and local language solutions to entry-level segments of the market.
Visteon is a leading global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures innovative climate, electronic, interior and lighting products for vehicle manufacturers. With corporate offices in Van Buren Township, Mich. (U.S.); Shanghai, China; and Chelmsford, UK; the company has facilities in 26 countries and employs approximately 26,500 people. New Sierra Wireless Embedded Module Connects Devices to Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband Network
Sierra Wireless AirPrime(TM) Embedded Module Provides 4G LTE Mobile Broadband Connections for Laptops and Networking Gear
LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- From the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Sierra Wireless today announced the availability of the AirPrime(TM) MC7750 embedded wireless module, which is designed to connect to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network and can be integrated into a variety of devices, including routers, netbooks, notebooks and tablet computers. The Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC7750 embedded module is integrated into consumer and enterprise router platforms being demonstrated in the Verizon Wireless booth this week at CES, and Sierra Wireless already has several design wins for the module with multiple device manufacturers.
The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network, launched in December 2010, is the fastest, most advanced 4G network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon Wireless' 3G network. Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network currently reaches one-third of all Americans, with plans to expand the network to the company's entire 3G coverage area over the next three years.
In addition to providing a connection to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network, the Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC7750 embedded module also supports Verizon Wireless' existing 2G and 3G services to allow roaming outside of 4G LTE coverage areas, providing manufacturers with the assurance that their products can connect anywhere Verizon Wireless offers data service. Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC Series modules for LTE networks also support Qualcomm's Gobi(TM) application programming interface (API). This interface helps streamline integration efforts, spur application development among third-party developers, and delivers greater flexibility to device manufacturers.
Sierra Wireless has extensive experience collaborating with device manufacturers to integrate high-speed mobile broadband connectivity and is well versed in the design challenges involved, including antenna design and placement; power consumption and thermal management; and optimization of the interface between the wireless module and its host device. Sierra Wireless professional services teams are available to assist customers throughout the integration process with device design and testing, helping them to deliver products to market on schedule and within budget.
The development of the Sierra Wireless AirPrime MC7750 embedded module is a result of collaboration fostered at Verizon Wireless' LTE Innovation Center. The LTE Innovation Center, established in 2008, provides an environment for diverse companies to work together to develop innovative products that leverage 4G LTE technology.

NAVTEQ Demonstrates Next Generation Location Experiences for the Connected Car
Want to keep tabs on your teen-aged driver? Or know how many miles your electric car can drive in mountain terrain? NAVTEQ has those answers--and more
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, today unveiled demonstrations of how it's transforming the driving experience through connected location content. NAVTEQ demonstrates next generation uses of its content at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) (Booth #36026, South Hall).
The demonstration apps show how drivers benefit when cars are connected to onboard applications which are connected to offboard services. NAVTEQ is providing the content to transform the driving experience to help its customers do the same.
-- Teen Driver Application. This demo app provides teens--and their
parents--with insights into how, how fast, and where teen drivers are
driving. A configurable geo-fence tracks whether teen drivers are within
a defined range or area (e.g. within five miles of their house),
provides real-time coaching on how they're driving, and even grades
their overall performance. "It's a terrific tool because it heightens
awareness about how kids are driving," said John MacLeod, Executive Vice
President of NAVTEQ Connected Services. "It provides objective feedback
that spurs productive dialogue between parents and kids, so kids learn
to drive smarter."
-- Electric Vehicle Application. This electric vehicle demo app uses
NAVTEQ's advanced vehicle map attributes to estimate the vehicle's
driving range in less-than-flat terrain, city versus highway driving, or
driving in heavy traffic. "These are among the key variables that can
seriously impact an electric car's range which vary appreciably," said
MacLeod. The app uses road slope, vehicle speed, real-time traffic, and
the likelihood of a car needing to stop (at stop signs, street lights,
in heavy traffic, etc.) to determine range and goes on to guide drivers
to nearby charging stations.

Energizer Expands Portfolio; Features Award-Winning Devices and Powerful New Products
Making Life Better with Inductive Innovations for Charging, Portable Power for Busy Lifestyles and Solar Solutions for Extended Adventures
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- While today's powerful mobile devices free consumers to do more from just about anywhere, they demand as much power as they deliver. Energizer is meeting the need for more reliable and longer-lasting power with products that help consumers get more out of their devices while they're away from wires and wall sockets.
At Digital Experience, held on the eve of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Energizer will showcase the latest in inductive charging technology, an expanded line of acclaimed Energizer® Energi To Go® portable power packs, new solar options for power and lights, and an array of accessories that utilize cutting-edge power technologies and provide a glimpse of what's in store for the future.
Two must-see products are the Energizer® Inductive Charger, and the Energizer® Recharge Smart(TM) Charger, both named CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award Honorees in the Portable Power category. They will be showcased in the Grand Lobby of the Las Vegas Convention Center, demonstrating how the company has gone far beyond the battery to introduce products that help make consumers' lives better.
"As the demand for products like tablets and smartphones skyrockets, so does demand for power, and Energizer is providing consumers with an array of options from a brand they know and trust," said Jim Olsen, Vice President of Marketing for North America. "We are very proud of the array of products we're featuring and the recognition we've received from the Consumer Electronics Association for our chargers."
The Future of Charging (click to view PDF of product fact sheet)
In October, Energizer introduced consumers to the future of charging and the industry took notice: the Energizer® Inductive Charger was named a CES Innovations 2011 Design and Engineering Award Honoree in the Portable Power category. On the cusp of charging technology, it brings the new universal wireless charging standard - Qi (chee) - to consumers, for convenient charging for smartphones now and in the future.
As with other standards that are common across brands - such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies - this exciting new development in inductive technology will allow chargers and devices to communicate with one another, regardless of manufacturer. That means consumers will enjoy the freedom to charge their smartphones, MP3 players, cameras and GPS devices on a single charging station because any device built or enabled with Qi will work with any charger that also has Qi.
Energizer, the first to bring a full suite of Qi-certified products to market, is unveiling a Qi sleeve for the iPhone® 4 at CES, a follow-up to their Qi Sleeve for the iPhone® 3GS/3G and a one-time replacement Qi Door for the BlackBerry® Curve(TM) 8900. It is anticipated that other manufacturers will be introducing devices with Qi built right in, ultimately eliminating the need for doors and sleeves. The Inductive Charger features two large charging zones that don't require locking the device into a precise position, and a USB port to charge a third device.
.
The Wireless Power Consortium will be featuring the Energizer® Inductive Charger and several new Qi-compatible devices from other manufacturers at Digital Experience and at a media event at the Venetian Hotel on Jan. 7th. Media interested in attending can click here for additional information.
Portable Power (click to view PDF of product fact sheet)
As technology grows infinitely more mobile, the need for plug-free power has never been greater. Even the most advanced smartphones, netbooks and tablets are limited by battery life and when devices are out of commission, so are their owners. The Energizer line of Energi To Go® portable power products continues to grow, working with even more devices to free consumers from wall sockets.
The Energizer® AP1201 for the iPhone® 4 is the first silicone rubber case with built-in rechargeable battery, providing a permanent power source that offers nearly twice the power for iPhone® 4 users. The one-piece case provides power, protection and style, while extending the talk time of the iPhone® (up to 9.8 hours on a 2G network or 4.8 hours on 3G network), tune time (up to 28 hours), Internet time (up to 7 hours) and standby time (up to 210 hours).
The Energizer® AP750 EnergiStick(TM) is the perfect pocket-sized portable power solution for any micro-USB smartphone. This back-up battery's compact size and slim shape make it a convenient way to get an additional talk time in a power pinch.
The Energizer® XP2000K Power Travel Kit offers all-in-one portable power for the home, car and all points in between. It includes the XP2000 portable charger and all of the accessories needed for extra talking, texting and listening time.
The collection also welcomes the PC07 connecting tip designed specifically for the iPad®. This adapter will work with both the Energizer® Energi To Go® XP8000 and Energizer® Energi To Go® XP18000, bringing consumers hours of extra energy to work, play and surf on the go.
The complete line of Energizer® Energi To Go® products will be on display throughout the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in the Las Vegas Hilton Hospitality Suite 2993.
Spotlight on Solar (click to view PDF of product fact sheet)
With interest in solar power on the rise, Energizer has been hard at work expanding its line of solar powered devices. Whether consumers want rechargeable devices for their outdoor adventures or simple solar panels to harness renewable energy, Energizer is there, delivering the latest and brightest solar solutions.
The Energizer® Solar(TM) line of lights utilizes bright sunlight and even overcast skies to recharge their embedded rechargeable battery packs for hours of illumination. The line includes the Energizer® Solar(TM) Lantern, which can also be powered by three D cell batteries, the Energizer® Solar(TM) Flashlight with a hand crank for kinetic energy on the spot and the Energizer® Solar(TM) Spot Light, which includes a DC adapter for charging as you drive. The company incorporated a secondary power source into each of these lights so users would always have a charging option regardless of the weather or time of day.
The Energizer®Energi To Go® SP1001portable solar charger combines solar power and the company's popular line of portable power products into one brilliant on-the-go solution for micro-USB smartphones and mobile devices. This hybrid device charges cell phones, smartphones and MP3 players using sunlight, indoor light or AC power.
Energizer is also bringing simplicity to solar power with a line of easy-to-assemble weather-resistant exterior solar panels that mount virtually anywhere. The Energizer® EZ1300 Solar Panel Charger provides 20 watt/1.3 amps of power and is ideal for powering a lighting system and small appliances, as well as replacing 12V power consumption. The Energizer® EZ3900 with 60 watt/ 3.9 amps of power is also available.
Chargers and Accessories that Go the Extra Mile (click to view PDF of product fact sheet)
Energizer has long been known as an innovative leader in the field of batteries, lighting products and portable power. Now, the company is bringing that same innovative spirit to a whole new line of chargers and electronic devices and accessories for work and play.
Those who crave staying connected and need back-up power on the go will appreciate the new Energizer®Universal USB Chargers. These devices plug right into either a wall or car and instantly transform them into a charging station using the USB cables that consumers already have. The wall model features a fold-out plug for easy travel, and both the car and wall models are available in one and two USB port models.
The Energizer® Travel Adapter is a convenient all-in-one accessory for the road warrior. It plugs into a wall socket to provide three additional outlets and a nightlight on the front, two USB charging ports on the side and an iPod® dock on top. The adapter automatically corrects for various foreign voltages and includes interchangeable international plugs for destinations around the globe.
The Energizer®Extended Flash Case for the iPhone® 3G/3GS, the iPhone® 4, the BlackBerry® 8500 and BlackBerry® 9700 helps users get more from their smartphone's built-in camera. The Extended Flash Case uses Energizer button cell batteries to power a built-in LED flash that syncs with smartphones to extend the range of indoor and low light photos, all while protecting the phone from drops and bumps.
These new products, along with several additional upcoming Energizer-branded accessories can be previewed at the Premier showcase, CES South Hall Upper Level Booth #36042.
Building Better Batteries (click to view PDF of product fact sheet)

Oregon Scientific Launches Build-Your-Own Weather Station Lab
From Frost Alerts to UV Exposure, Weather Trackers and Outdoor Enthusiasts Can Now Customize Weather Stations To Match Their Interests
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- Oregon Scientific, a leading designer and worldwide marketer of personal electronics, today announced the launch of the Weather Station Lab, an interactive online tool that offers a simple, cost-effective and customizable way for consumers to keep a constant finger on the pulse of upcoming weather changes. From measuring rainfall for gardeners and wind speed and direction for golfers to optimizing home energy efficiency for saving money, the Weather Station Lab has something for everyone. Oregon Scientific will unveil the Weather Station Lab at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week, Booth S117, South Hall 2, Ground Level.
The Oregon Scientific Weather Station Lab is an easy-to-use tool with a step-by-step process to building a custom weather station. Users decide whether they want to build a basic or advanced model and begin by selecting a base console and are walked through a variety of indoor / outdoor scenarios paired with a wide range of optional station sensors and accessories, including:
-- Atomic Clock - Through a built-in radio receiver, the weather station is
permanently tuned to the frequency of the U.S. Atomic Clock signal in
Fort Collins, Colorado, which is set by the National Institute of
Standards & Technology. After initial synchronization, a quartz timing
instrument keeps the correct time between Atomic Clock updates that
occur throughout the day.
-- Indoor/Outdoor Temperature & Ice Alerts - Monitor additional rooms of
the home, office, or yard with wireless temperature and humidity sensors
for optimal heating and cooling efficiency and energy savings. The
standard sensor can be used for monitoring an office's computer server
room remotely, whereas a floating temperature sensor can be used at home
for a pool or hot tub. Users can also customize their weather station
to alert them to icy conditions outside.
-- Daily & Total Rainfall History Via Wireless Collector - Track daily and
cumulative rainfall by adding a gauge to the weather station with a
remote sensor in the garden. The gauge includes excessive rainfall
alarm options, enabling gardeners to maintain their green thumb in the
comfort of their home.
-- Eco Options - Keep maintenance costs to a minimum and use fewer
batteries by selecting a solar powered +ECO cell for the weather
station, ultimately minimizing environmental impact.
-- Weather & Barometric Pressure Forecast - Predict weather-related
activities and air pressure, which is crucial to predicting basic
weather conditions, within a 20-30 mile radius for up to 24 hours ahead
with a barometric pressure-based forecast sensor.
-- Wind Speed & Direction - Separate wind speed and direction sensors can
be added to a weather station for measuring wind chill, predicting lake
effect snow or drift conditions, and anticipating conditions for outdoor
sports and activities like barbeques, sporting events, golf, running,
cycling, and fishing.
-- UV Exposure Sensor - There are several major health problems that link
overexposure to UV radiation - skin cancer, premature aging, cataracts,
and immune suppression. A UV sensor can be added to a weather station
for personal use - or even to protect plants from too much sun.
Customizable weather stations available through the Oregon Scientific Weather Station Lab range in price from $39.99 for basic models through $599.99 for the above-and-beyond features weather enthusiasts crave. The build-your-own weather station learning experience can be accessed via the Lab at www2.oregonscientific.com/weather-station-lab/.

The Next Generation of the Home Stereo Has Arrived: The Altec Lansing inMotion Air is the Answer to Universal Audio Freedom with no Compromise
MILFORD, Pa., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, audio innovator Altec Lansing releases the inMotion Air, the universal solution for users who desire true wireless freedom for home audio, but will not compromise sound quality. From any room in the house or from a variety of devices, the inMotion Air delivers audio autonomy providing room-filling sound up to 100 yards (300 feet) away with unrivaled clarity.
"Users want access to their music at all times, whether it's from their computer libraries, mobile phones or portable players. The inMotion Air delivers freedom from the confines of wires so that the benefits of rich, crystal clear sound can be shared anywhere," said Steve Schlangen, Altec Lansing product manager. "Our heritage as an audio innovator enabled us to engineer a new wireless audio experience with an immersive soundstage, so whether consumers are connecting across the house from their computer or across the room from their iPhone, their music is always within reach."
Life's Playlist, Unbound
The robust sound from the inMotion Air will appeal to users looking for a more sophisticated solution for liberating their music libraries. Unlike any other wireless audio system at this affordable price point, users will get the party moving with distinctive sound definition and distortion free audio, even at room-filling volume levels. As the night progresses from lounging poolside to entertaining in the living room, the inMotion Air keeps the music going and enables the party to flow from room to room. When connected to a computer via the included wireless adaptor, the inMotion Air achieves an astounding range of 100 yards, that's the equivalent of an entire football field, to stream playlists, internet radio or other audio content.
Whether setting the mood or rocking out, the inMotion Air lets loose the full potential of everyday devices. Users of the iPhone, iPad, Droid and other stereo Bluetooth enabled devices can enjoy their music anywhere for up to seven hours of rich audio ecstasy with the included rechargeable Lithium-ion battery. Designed to be an accessory to an active social lifestyle, syncing to the inMotion Air is fast and simple for the user, as well as friends and family with compatible devices.
Users can control extensive audio libraries with the remote control, with included support for iTunes and Windows Media Center. When connected to a Bluetooth enabled portable device, streaming and controlling content is a breeze.
Wireless Audio Evolved
When creating the inMotion Air, the engineers at Altec Lansing were aware that the sound quality of Bluetooth audio was typically described as "tinny" and left something to be desired. To counteract this, apt-X sound codec technology has been integrated into the inMotion Air. Apt-X is a unique codec that reproduces robust sound that's true-to-life, providing CD quality audio, regardless of file compression encoding. Additionally, Waves' Maxx® audio algorithms are used to further enhance the performance for the best possible audio experience never before heard from a wireless portable audio device in this price range.
The inMotion Air computer adaptor features a bypass / line-out connection for speakers, so the adaptor unit never has to be unplugged from the computer. To make the inMotion Air more in-sync with a mobile lifestyle, the Bluetooth class 1 utilized in this system cuts down on interference to other devices such as Wi-Fi networks and cordless phones. Additionally, whether the user is looking to double the output or bring the party to multiple rooms simultaneously, two units can be linked to the same transmitter to provide truly immersive audio.
Weighing in at just over a pound, the inMotion Air's sleek industrial design features top-mounted controls, soft-texture finish and an ergonomic handle in the back for easy carrying. The included remote gives the user easy control of their iTunes or Windows Media Center library from across the room. To fit any decor, the inMotion Air will be available in two colors, a modern slate black and riveting gunmetal.
Availability and Pricing
The Altec Lansing inMotion Air will be available in February at Radio Shack and http://www.alteclansing.com. MSRP is $199.95.

Experts Forecast Top Seven Trends in Healthcare Information Privacy for 2011
Move to Electronic Health Records Raises Concerns for Patient Privacy, Security, Data Breach
PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- What are the top security and privacy issues facing the healthcare industry in 2011? A panel of healthcare experts representing privacy, trends, technology, regulatory, data breach, and governance were asked to weigh in with their forecasts for 2011. These experts suggest that as health information exchanges take form, millions of patient records--soon to be available as digital files--will lead to potential unauthorized access, violation of new data breach laws and, more importantly, exposure to the threat of medical and financial identity theft.
These predictions are supported by the recent Ponemon Institute's Benchmark Study on Patient Privacy and Data Security, published November 2010, which found that data breaches of patient information cost the healthcare industry $6 billion annually; protecting patient data is a low priority for hospitals; and the healthcare industry lags behind the recently enacted HITECH laws.
The top predictions for 2011 include:
1. Health information exchanges, many of which will be launched by
inexperienced and understaffed organizations, will force more attention
on security and privacy;
2. Increased fines and regulatory action by State Attorneys General and
regulatory agencies;
3. Data breaches and associated costs will increase, as penalties for
information security negligence are acted on;
4. Hospital governing-boards will exert their power to manage data breach
risks in order to increase accountability and fiduciary responsibility;
5. A significant "data spill" is inevitable and will bring national
attention to the issue;
6. Heightened patient awareness and concern over the security of their
private medical data;
7. The finalization of data breach notification rules by the Department of
Health and Human Services could remove the controversial "harm threshold"
provision that determines whether notification is required when an
incident occurs. If removed, this will create a risk of over
notification and desensitization of patients.
Industry-Wide Experts Share Their Opinions and Insight
Dr. Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder, Ponemon Institute; research experts in privacy, information security policy and information management
"Endemic failure to keep pace with best practices and advancing technology has resulted in antiquated data security, governance, policy plaguing in the healthcare industry. Millions of patients are at risk for medical and financial identity fraud due to inadequate information security. Information security in the healthcare industry is at the fulcrum of economic, technological, and regulatory influence and, to date, it has not demonstrated an ability to adapt to meet the resulting challenges--but it must. The reputation and well-being of those organizations upon which we rely to practice the healing arts depends on it."
Dr. Deborah Peel, M.D., practicing physician and founder of Patient Privacy Rights; the nation's health privacy watchdog
"2011 will be the year that Americans recognize they can't control personal health information in health IT systems and data exchanges. Will 2011 be the year that data security and privacy are the top of the nation's agenda? I hope so. The right to privacy is the essential right of individuals in vibrant Democracies. If we don't do it right in healthcare, we won't have any privacy in the Digital Age."
Cliff Baker, managing partner for Meditology, a healthcare IT risk management and deployment services firm
"In 2011, we can expect that the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights will be gearing up its proactive audits. Where does this leave OCR audits in 2011? They're probably directed at those organizations that have breaches attributable to known and published high-risk areas. Look for those organizations to be dealing with OCR auditors camped out at their facilities in 2011."
Ernie Hood, vice president and CIO, Group Health Cooperative; one of the nation's largest consumer-governed health care systems
"The healthcare industry is on the verge of a major shift. Organizations are venturing into the electronic world for the first time as practices implementing electronic health records and states are launching health information exchanges. A surge of new data will be brought online by a lot of inexperienced organizations fueled by monetary government incentives. Mistakes are a certainty. Combine this with sophisticated approaches to identity theft by organized crime, and breaches will happen. When a breach occurs, the way the organization handles it publicly will be critical."
Rick Kam, president and co-founder, ID Experts; comprehensive data breach solutions
"Health information exchanges will raise the awareness of security and privacy. I am seeing organizations shift their focus from implementation of electronic health records to a focus on the next phase of "meaningful use," specifically how they are going to share patient records though health information exchanges. There will also be more concern over accountability if PHI is breached. How will a patient know who is responsible when a health information exchange has a data breach? Who will they hold accountable to fix the problem and for the financial, reputational, and other damage they experience? I think a lot of work needs to be done in this area and it will come into focus as a 'must do' initiative in 2011."
Sandeep Tiwari, CEO, Zafesoft, Inc.; provider of information security and control software
"As healthcare information becomes more mobile, issues with security will only become increasingly complex. Healthcare is a mammoth space that changes and moves slowly, but when it does, it moves en masse. In the case of PHI/PII the laws were ahead of the technology. To date, there have been no secure audit trails, which impacts the effectiveness of the laws. If we can't track how and when private and personal information is accessed, we will never secure it."
Larry Walker, president of The Walker Company; governance consultant to health care organizations
"Patient health information data breaches are one of the most significant legal and public trust risks facing hospital governing boards, which are legally and ethically accountable for the results of a breach. The board of trustees has a fundamental fiduciary responsibility to ensure that patients' health information is safe and secure at all times. To do this, boards must establish the prevention of data breaches as a critical organizational priority, ensure that financial resources sufficient to achieve the objective are made available, and require periodic updates from senior management on data breach risks and methods being utilized to close potential breach gaps. This should be one of the critical agenda items for hospital and health system boards in 2011."

"I challenged our product and engineering teams to end the confusion by developing a cost-effective solution that pairs market-leading voice and data services with high availability and extremely low latency from MegaPath's nationwide broadband network. Polaroid Eyewear Features Premium 3D Product Line at CES 2011
Polaroid Premium 3D Glasses demoed with Television Displays for the First Time to Showcase in-the-Home Experience
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Polaroid Eyewear, a division of StyleMark AG and world leader in optics and lens technology, today began first-ever demonstrations of its 3D eyewear line with television displays at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
Originally launched in July 2010, Polaroid Eyewear distributed its RealD-certified Polaroid Premium 3D Eyewear line to movie theaters and cinemas, opticians and other retail channels through its global network of subsidiaries and distributors. The premier demonstrations of 3D in the home at CES will provide attendees the experience of using the Polaroid line of 3D glasses with TV displays that feature "passive" or "circular polarized" 3D technology.
Current 3D TVs in the market employ "active" 3-D technology, which require special shutter 3D glasses with batteries or cables connected to the display. The new generation of 3D televisions, many of which are set to be unveiled this week at CES, will use the circular 3D technology similar to 3D theatrical releases. This type of 3D technology is expected to become the standard for gaming systems and PCs.
The Polaroid line of 3D glasses features circular polarized technology embedded within a premium curved circular polarized 3D lens, meeting the need for the circular polarized or passive 3D systems at an affordable price point.
"The premium curved lenses used in our products are made with our unique Thermofusion technology, guaranteeing a perfect 3D experience," said Paul Sheerin, Vice President of Global Operations for PolaroidEyewear.
Jerry Dreifuss, Global Marketing Manager at Polaroid Eyewear added, "We are excited to showcase our 3D eyewear line so that consumers can experience 3D within the home, without needing to be tethered to their displays or constantly changing batteries. Our eyewear features circular technology, delivering high quality, affordable 3D viewing in the home, providing style and comfort to avid 3D fans."
The demonstrations, held from January 6-9, 2011 (booth # 13616), feature a selection of adult and junior 3D, RealD certified, premium curved lens glasses and special styles that fit perfectly over prescription glasses, including multiple color variations , which Polaroid Eyewear is demoing with 3D televisions sets to simulate a true in-the-home 3D experience. Polaroid Eyewear is also featuring non-3D fashion eyewear including their unique 2011 collection and a selection of eyewear from the Polaroid Best Under the Sun Collection, which showcases modern day reproductions of historical Polaroid sunglasses from the 1930s through the 1980s.
The first generation of Polaroid Premium 3D Eyewear featured at CES 2011, online and in select movie theaters, is available in nine adult styles, two children's styles and three covers for optical. Polaroid Eyewear has plans to package an offering of two-, three-, and four-pair packs, single options and a four-pair family pack. The first generation of 3D glasses and covers for optical frames are currently available for purchase in select movie theaters and online at http://www.polaroid-eyewearstore.com.
