Vertical Player in $10B+ Online Daily Deal Industry Expands Presence to Chicago Market
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- FamilyFinds.com , an online daily deal site exclusively focused on services and experiences for families, announced today that it has acquired Mamaloot - the leading daily deal site focused on families in the Chicago market. On the heels of FamilyFinds' recent entry into the Los Angeles market, today's announcement underscores the company's continued growth in and core focus on the family space. Mamaloot will begin operating under the FamilyFinds name starting on January 5.
As local businesses seek to connect directly with the 'chief purchasing officers' - aka moms - and consumers continue to demand value from their favorite neighborhood merchants, FamilyFinds provides an invaluable resource by helping families find and discover the best local deals and experiences. FamilyFinds saw in Mamaloot an authentic business developed by their Founders Bo Johnson and Lindsay Cohen, real mom entrepreneurs and experienced Internet professionals who will stay on in management roles with FamilyFinds. Mamaloot quickly and successfully built their brand around what its founders actively do for their own families: find great experiences and values.
"We are expanding across the country in a rapidly growing market, so the opportunity to add both a presence in a top market and experienced, passionate team members makes sense," said Matt Coffin, chief executive officer, FamilyFinds. "The team at Mamaloot had a similar idea when they launched as we did; provide great deals across local communities to the families that seek them out."
FamilyFinds offers daily deals from hidden gems to popular places; restaurants and snacks, theater and attractions, kids activities and classes, spas and fitness, kids clothing, toys and products and hundreds of other family-friendly merchants. The online resource also allows consumers to discover new places to visit, ideas for local family adventures and other value-added content that takes them from deal to experience. The acquisition of Mamalooot gives the company a head start in Chicago.
"This marks the first of our growth expansion plans into key markets nationwide," said Brian Barnum, president, FamilyFinds. "Now reaching all of Los Angeles and Chicago allows us to provide millions of families with up to 90% off at places they shop, eat and play, as well as offer inspirational ideas on fun things to do with family."
Evidenced by recent activity in the space -- Google bidding for Groupon; Amazon investing in Living Social; Facebook and its 'Deals' entry - this industry presents an enormous opportunity. FamilyFinds, which is strongly differentiated from industry competitors by its dedicated focus on families, has tapped one of the most sizeable and powerful buying audiences, moms. There are 75 million moms in the United States representing more than $4 trillion in purchasing power*, and with families always seeking ways to save money, the company finds itself strongly positioned for building a large and important business in the daily deal and family market.
The company plans additional market roll out over the coming year. For more information on FamilyFinds, please visit http://www.familyfinds.com or email press@familyfinds.com.

Control4 can now connect to Sub-Zero and Wolf high-end kitchen appliances for convenience, energy savings and the perfect meal every time
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire - CES 2011 - January 6-9, 2011 - LVCC South 21407 -- a leader in affordable IP-based control and entertainment systems, today announced its partnership with Sub-Zero, Inc. and Wolf Appliance, Inc., industry leaders in premium refrigeration and cooking appliances.
Control4 collaborates with third-party manufacturers to design products that integrate with the Control4® platform. Through this new partnership, Sub-Zero® refrigerators, Wolf® ovens, and Sub-Zero® wine storage units can be integrated into Control4 networks, resulting in unprecedented benefits from being able to manage appliances through a Control4 system.
"The connected home isn't just about consumer electronics gadgets -- every appliance and service should be easily accessed and managed through any touch point in the house. There is no better example of this new reality than this partnership," stated Control4's CEO Will West.
In a Control4 digital home, eco-conscious homeowners can program Sub-Zero freezers and refrigerators to maximize energy efficiency by automatically setting ice-making production and other energy-intensive functions to lower levels at different times of the day. Homeowners can also automatically adjust settings to accommodate specific lifestyle needs, such as increasing ice production prior to entertaining large numbers of guests. Users also have the option to receive alerts that allow them to manage and monitor energy usage. For the first time, homeowners can send energy deferral requests or general service requests through their Control4 system directly to Sub-Zero and Wolf.
"Sub-Zero and Wolf products are known for their cutting-edge design and performance," said Michele Bedard, Vice President, Marketing for Sub-Zero and Wolf. "This partnership is another extension of our capabilities that allows us to fit into the lifestyle of our customer and do our part to be even more energy efficient."
When integrating select Wolf products into their Control4 system, homeowners can be notified when pre-heat is complete, view the current oven temperature, receive alerts when the timer is almost finished, and access meat temperature from the internal meat thermometer.
With the Control4 platform, Sub-Zero wine storage unit owners can monitor their unit's door status and even receive-mail or text message alerts when a door opens or closes. Since temperature and humidity are critical elements to storing the perfect bottle of wine, collectors are assured that their wine unit door has been properly shut and air is not entering or exiting. These alerts also provide a new level of monitoring should anyone enter the wine unit without permission.
Examples of Sub-Zero and Wolf's integration with the Control4 platform will be on display in the Control4 booth during the CES 2011 show. Broadcom Announces Industry's First 10G EPON Optical Network Unit SoC Solution
Enables Cost-Effective Deployment of Value-Added Business and Residential Services on a Single Fiber Infrastructure
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Broadcom Corporation (Nasdaq: BRCM), a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications, today announced the industry's first 10 Gigabit (10G) Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) optical network unit (ONU) system-on-a-chip (SoC). Designed specifically to address the high-speed connectivity requirements of converging triple-play services (video-on-demand, HD-IPTV, voice over IP and high-speed Internet), together with 3G/4G mobile backhaul and business services, the 10 Gigabit per second (Gbps) Broadcom® BCM55030 SoC solution delivers ten times more bandwidth than current 1G EPON solutions.
By leveraging Broadcom's industry-leading support for multiple logical link identifiers per ONU and superior quality of service (QoS) feature set, the BCM55030 is capable of managing simultaneous transport of traffic from residences alongside mission-critical business services and cell tower backhaul services, all over a common infrastructure. This means time-sensitive mobile backhaul traffic and synchronization data may share the network with video, voice, and Internet data, without added delays, data loss, or QoS degradation, making it an ideal solution for OEMs and service providers serving dense urban areas.
The SoC solution combines unprecedented device integration, ultra-low power and a small footprint to enable cost-effective deployment of value added business and residential services on a single fiber infrastructure. For fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) multi-dwelling unit (MDU) applications, Broadcom's 10G EPON ONU enables carriers and OEMs to easily upgrade existing equipment deployed over today's 1G EPON networks and deliver true triple-speed services by increasing both bandwidth per subscriber and total subscriber count on the same fiber, thus significantly improving carrier profitability and return on investment. For fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications, the device empowers next generation digital homes to benefit from new ultra high-speed latency sensitive services, such as 3D TV and interactive Internet gaming, elevating the consumer broadband experience to the next level.
Market Drivers
-- According to a published report* the Internet will be four times larger
in 2014 than in 2009 with the equivalent of 12 billion DVDs crossing the
Internet each month.
-- The bandwidth required for residential access networks is steadily
increasing as more customers subscribe to HD-IPTV and service providers
add VoD mobile services.
-- Business IP traffic* is also expected to grow at a compound annual
growth rate of 21 percent (2009 - 2014), while mobile data traffic is
expected to double every year through 2013.
-- Traditional 3G mobile networks are overloaded with customers downloading
video content and other online content to their smart phones, and mobile
and connectivity to laptops over cellular networks is also increasing.
-- China is aggressively rolling out EPON in an effort to provide
high-speed broadband connectivity to high-density housing. Broadcom
recently expanded its 10G EPON trials with China's telecom service
providers and multi-service operators to provide high-speed broadband
connectivity.
-- Japan is currently promoting 100 Mbps broadband as service providers
compete for subscribers and pent-up demand for more bandwidth continues
to increase.
-- U.S. MSOs have selected and incorporated 10G EPON as the technology of
choice for providing high-speed, high bandwidth, high QoS business
services.
-- CableLabs® has released DPoE(TM) specifications for business services
which will provide cable operators with a common method of using
DOCSIS® back office specifications and service concepts to provision
and operate EPON-based products when delivering IP and Ethernet
services.
Product Highlights/Key Facts:
-- The BCM55030 provides a cost-effective platform for customer premises
equipment such as enterprise routers, MDU systems and home gateways.
-- Delivers the industry's highest EPON ONU integration including a 10 Gbps
media access controller, 10 Gbps EPON serializers/deserializers and
forward error correction, a four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, traffic
management, and on-chip memory for both CPU and packet buffers,
resulting in no external memory components. The device complies with the
new IEEE 802.3av 10G EPON standard including support for 10G EPON and 1G
EPON co-existence on the same fiber. The chip supports both 10G/10G and
10G/1G symmetric modes of operation.
-- Ideally suited for 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution) mobile backhaul
transport (also known as cell tower back haul), as it supports both
QoS-assured bandwidth and timing distribution.
-- The device supports Broadcom's 2.5G Turbo EPON(TM) in addition to both
standard 1G and 10G modes.
-- Broadcom has already begun sampling the BCM55030 solution to early
access customers.
Supporting Quotes:
Jeff Heynen, Directing Analyst, Broadband and Video, Infonetics Research, Inc.
"PON deployments continue to pick up the pace around the world as the number of residential subscribers signing up for fiber-based broadband access grows and as operators receive subsidization from local governments to deploy deep fiber networks. In 2Q10, worldwide PON revenue jumped 28 percent, driven by increased spending on EPON equipment for FTTB and FTTH rollouts. 10G EPON is going to be a game changer, particularly in China for MDU applications, and here in the U.S., for business and mobile backhaul services."
Greg Caltabiano, Senior Director & General Manager, Ethernet Access, Broadcom Corporation
"10G EPON leverages Ethernet to enable cost-effective deployment of future-proof networks with higher speeds, offering new services, and higher performance. Today's introduction builds on our 1G EPON product technology whose advanced QoS and traffic management serve millions of broadband residential subscribers. Going forward this best-in-class technology will be integrated into a family of products that will leverage other Broadcom technology such as switching, voice, and home gateways."

-All models feature VIZIO Internet Apps(TM) (VIA) in Cinemawide mode for full side-by-side app browsing with 16:9 Full HD TV viewing
IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VIZIO, America's #1 LCD HDTV Company*, revealed today plans to launch Cinemawide HDTV(TM), 21:9 Cinema aspect ratio models that can display native 2.35:1 ("CinemaScope") movies without any black bars for a true cinematic experience. The ultra widescreen perspective displays movies as designed for the silver screen for an immersive movie experience at home. Each model also features VIZIO Internet Apps(TM) (VIA) in Cinema mode, which allows users to browse apps side-by-side with 16:9 Full HD content without any compromise in resolution or size. The 50- and 58-inch class size models are Edge Lit Razor LED(TM) HDTVs with Smart Dimming. VIZIO will also be demonstrating at their private CES showroom a 71-inch class size model with Full Array TruLED(TM) backlighting for the ultimate in performance.
All three models feature VIZIO's Theater 3D(TM) technology that delivers superior, flicker-free 3D performance that is up to 2x brighter and significantly reduces crosstalk compared to current Active Shutter LCD TVs and works in conjunction with battery-free, lightweight glasses. Theater 3D puts the burden of 3D processing into the TV, eliminating the need for cumbersome, complex, and expensive glasses. Compared to "Active Shutter" technology, VIZIO's Theater 3D offers up to 2x brighter picture quality without flickering. It also significantly reduces the crosstalk inherent in Active Shutter 3D which can cause eyestrain and headaches. Theater 3D eyewear is compatible with most 3D movie theaters.
"For movie-buffs, the Cinemawide HDTV series is a revelation and lets them watch movies as the filmmakers intended," stated Matthew McRae, VIZIO CTO. "The result is a significantly more immersive experience that fills your field of vision without black bars or loss of resolution. In addition, accessing favorite apps with VIZIO Internet Apps can now be a true side-by-side experience with 16:9 content for a full HD image right next to the VIA sidebar."
Cinemawide HDTV - Ultra-Widescreen
Most HDTVs have an aspect ratio of 16:9, or 1.78:1, and a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 often referred to as 1080p Full HD. This aspect ratio was a compromise between the more square formatting of older televisions (4:3 or 1.33:1) and the wider 1.85:1 aspect of many movies. A 1.85:1 movie on a 16:9 HDTV will still show some black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, though, are usually filmed in the much wider 2.35:1 or 2.39:1 aspect ratio. VIZIO's new Cinemawide HDTVs slot in between these "CinemaScope" aspect ratios perfectly with a 2.37:1 (21:9) aspect ratio. So whether you're watching 2001, Lord of the Rings, Kill Bill, Toy Story 3, or countless other movies, you can watch them in their original aspect ratio and without black bars.
VIZIO Internet Apps(TM) (VIA) Meets Cinemawide HDTV
With Cinemawide HDTV, using VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA) is more seamless than ever. While watching a pixel-perfect 16:9 full HD image on the right side of the screen, users can simultaneously browse and use Apps on the left side of the screen. Search Wiki TV for the actor you just saw, Tweet about the movie you're watching, or even buy tickets to the new sequel through Fandango.
"Connected TV's are expected to account for 21% of Global TV Shipments in 2010, rising to 122 million units globally by 2014**, representing one of the most exciting areas of growth in the TV industry and ultra-wide aspect ratio TVs, such as 21:9, and will enable consumers to view their TV content and Internet content simultaneously in harmony," stated Paul Gagnon Director of North America TV Market Research, DisplaySearch.
With VIZIO Internet Apps (VIA), top online content and services brands are available at the touch of a button, including: Amazon Video On Demand, Facebook®, Flickr®, Netflix, Rhapsody®, Pandora®, Twitter(TM), VUDU®, and Yahoo!® TV Widgets. Additional Apps recently released include Fandango®, iMemories®, MediaBox(TM), My-Cast®, TuneIn Radio(TM), Web Videos, Wiki TV and Yahoo Fantasy Football . VIZIO Internet Apps delivers unprecedented choice and control of web-based content directly to the television without the need for a PC or set-top box.
Navigating VIZIO Internet Apps is simple on all three Cinemawide HDTV(TM) models, using the included Bluetooth Universal Remote with a built-in QWERTY keypad. State of the art wireless Internet access is available through built-in Dual-Band 802.11n Wi-Fi, allowing viewers to enjoy the convenience of on-demand movies, TV shows, social networking, music, photos and more with just the push of a button.
The Best 3D Experience Gets Even Better ... And Wider
VIZIO's Theater 3D(TM) technology uses circular polarization, similar to what is found in most 3D movie theaters. This technology offers a brighter, flicker-free image, handles fast motion without blurring, and has a wider horizontal viewing angle compared to "Active Shutter" technology.
By including four pairs of the lightweight and comfortable Theater 3D glasses with these TVs, VIZIO has eliminated two of the most common objections to 3DTV purchases: the need to wear bulky 3D glasses that require batteries or recharging and the need to invest in expensive additional 3D glasses so the entire family can enjoy it together. Two of the four pairs are specially designed to accommodate prescription eyeglass wearers. By incorporating all of the 3D processing into the TV instead of burdening the eyewear, as is the case with Active 3D, VIZIO Theater 3D enables users to wear comfortable, eco-friendly, battery-free lenses instead of Active Shutter glasses that are heavy, awkward, and require recharging and other maintenance.
Support for the Widest Array of 3D Formats
The entire Cinemawide HDTV line supports the widest selection of 3D formats to ensure compatibility across Blu-ray, broadcast, cable, satellite, and gaming. This includes Frame Packing, Side by Side, Top and Bottom, plus SENSIO® Hi-Fi 3D and the RealD Format.
VIZIO's Leading LED Picture Quality
The XVT3D500CM and XVT3D580CM utilize VIZIO's Smart Dimming Edge Lit Razor LED technology. Smart Dimming intelligently controls its array of LEDs, which are organized in 32 zones. Working frame by frame, based on the content being displayed, Smart Dimming adjusts brightness in precise steps down to pure black (where the LED is completely off). This cutting-edge technology minimizes light leakage and enables a Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 10 Million to 1, for blacker blacks and whiter whites.
The top of the line XVT3D710CM uses VIZIO's TruLED(TM) Full Array LED backlighting with Smart Dimming technology that is able to dim specific areas of the image, depending on what's on screen, resulting in the most incredible and life-like images that "pop" off the screen.
Advanced Audio
VIZIO Cinemawide HDTVs will feature SRS StudioSound HD - the ultimate all-in-one audio suite designed specifically for Flat Panel TVs. Years of excellence in audio, practical experience and patented technologies allow StudioSound HD to deliver the most immersive and natural surround sound ever using built-in TV speakers. The suite also delivers remarkably crisp and clear dialog, rich bass, an elevated sound stage and consistent, spike-free volume levels. StudioSound HD features optimized audio presets for movies, news, sports and music while also providing a built-in EQ toolset for peak audio performance.
VIZIO continues its leadership in bringing innovative technologies that transform and enhance the HDTV experience. The Cinemawide HDTV XVT3D500CM and XVT3D580CM will be available later this year.

Trident and Flingo® Deliver the World's First Deployment of Sync Apps(SM) on Connected TVs
Flingo's Sync Apps are Internet TV Applications that Deliver a New Level of Connectivity on the Home Entertainment Center
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID), a leading provider of set-top box and TV semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has integrated Flingo's Sync App(SM) technology onto its digital TV (DTV) platform to make TV watching more fun and engaging through a new level of interactivity with TV programming. Flingo is one of the world's largest publishers of Connected TV Apps for media companies such as CBS, Fox, Warner Bros, TV Guide and MTV Networks on platforms from Samsung, Vizio, LG and Google TV. According to recent research by Nielsen, the average consumer now spends over five hours per day watching television. "We believe this connected TV is just the first step in delivering a truly extended Connected Home and as a leader in both set-top box and TV, Trident intends to be at the forefront of this multimedia revolution. -- Accelerates Expansion of Company's Semiconductor Business into Adjacent Markets --
SAN DIEGO and SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM) and Atheros Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATHR), today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement whereby Qualcomm intends to acquire Atheros, a leader in innovative technologies for wireless and wired local area connectivity in the computing, networking and consumer electronics industries. The acquisition is intended to help accelerate the expansion of Qualcomm's technologies and platforms to new businesses beyond cellular and provide access to significant new growth opportunities.
Qualcomm has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Atheros for $45 per share in cash, representing an enterprise value of $3.1 billion. The transaction has been approved by the Qualcomm and Atheros boards of directors and is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of domestic and foreign regulatory approvals and the approval of Atheros' stockholders. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2011. Excluding amortization of acquired intangibles, Qualcomm expects the acquisition to be modestly accretive to earnings per share in fiscal year 2012, the first full year of combined operations. Qualcomm intends to finalize its estimates of the transaction's financial impact, as well as the accounting for the transaction, upon deal close.
"It is Qualcomm's strategy to continually integrate additional technologies into mobile devices to make them the primary way that people communicate, compute and access content. This acquisition is a natural extension of that strategy into other types of devices," said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, chairman and CEO of Qualcomm. "The combination of Qualcomm and Atheros is intended to accelerate this opportunity by utilizing best-in-class products for communications, computing and consumer electronics to broaden existing customer relationships and expand access to new partners and distribution channels."
Atheros' current president and CEO, Dr. Craig H. Barratt, is expected to join Qualcomm as president of Qualcomm Networking & Connectivity.
"Qualcomm and Atheros have a long history of collaboration and share a culture of technical innovation and execution excellence," Barratt said. "The Atheros team will build upon Qualcomm's strengths and leadership to bolster our customers' ability to deliver innovative and differentiated products in the increasingly connected world."
"With this acquisition and our complementary products, Qualcomm will be in a strong position to take our successful mobile strategy of bringing the best technologies together into a systems solution and apply this to new opportunities," said Steve Mollenkopf, EVP and group president of Qualcomm. "We see this strategy as central to helping our customers capitalize on the ubiquitous connectivity and seamless experiences that are developing across mobile phones, computing and consumer electronics."

Artificial Life Launches New Investment Entity and Announces First Investments
Company intends to acquire equity stakes in several promising start-ups and joint ventures during 2011
HONG KONG and LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Artificial Life, Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: ALIF), (http://www.artificial-life.com), today announced the launch of a new investment entity and its first two investments.
Artificial Life, Inc. (ALIF) has launched Artificial Life Investments Ltd., a new, wholly owned Cayman Islands subsidiary that will serve as a dedicated investment vehicle of the Artificial Life group.
In late December 2010, Artificial Life Investments Ltd. already made its first two investments, acquiring equity stakes of approximately 19% and 16%, respectively, in ARE Augmented Reality Europe GmbH ("ARE"), a Berlin-based technology start-up, and M-Health Middle East Ltd. ("M-Health"), a Cayman Islands joint venture that is expected to establish its headquarters in Dubai and begin operations in early 2011.
ARE is engaged in the global purchase, license and sale of license rights and patents to special augmented reality technology for mobile applications. Artificial Life Investments Ltd. acquired its equity interest in ARE for approximately $695,000 USD.
M-Health is a newly formed joint venture between Artificial Life and two of its long-term clients and business partners, each with substantial experience and know how relating to doing business in the Middle East. The venture will focus on mobile telemedicine technology sales and distribution in the Middle East. The parties anticipate that M-Health will serve as Artificial Life's distributor and sales agent in the Middle East in the telemedicine field, including actively selling and supporting Artificial Life's Mobil Diab® technology and its mobile diabetes monitoring app GluCoMo(TM). Artificial Life Investments Ltd. purchased its investment in M-Health by contributing accounts receivable in the aggregate amount of approximately $9.6 million USD. Two other wholly-owned subsidiaries of Artificial Life, Inc. simultaneously acquired, in the aggregate, approximately 3.9% of the equity of M-Health in exchange for accounts receivable worth approximately $2.3 million USD.
Artificial Life Investments Ltd. intends to make additional investments in 2011, acquiring equity stakes in companies that the Artificial Life group considers to be a valuable extension of its core business. The investment focus will be on certain mobile technologies such as augmented reality and optical recognition technologies, telemedicine, social networking and general business apps for mobile devices based on iPhone/iPad and Android operating systems.
Artificial Life Investments Ltd.'s flexible investment strategy, in which equity investments are preferably wholly or partially acquired in exchange for non-cash assets, is designed to take advantage of the current demand for Artificial Life's proprietary technologies. These non-cash assets may include non-exclusive technology licenses, accounts receivable, or stock of Artificial Life, Inc
"The launch of our new investment entity and the completion of its first investments are major milestones in our expansion strategy for 2011 and the coming years. Artificial Life has experienced rapid organic growth over the past couple of years. The Company has now reached a size and maturity where the logical next step is to engage more in M&A activities and to expand further by making selective equity investments in promising start-ups and joint ventures. This is possible in part because of the high demand for our technology, which allows us, for example, to leverage licensing rights in our proprietary technologies for equity in new and promising start-ups or joint ventures. Our new equity investments will give us the opportunity to grow in terms of both increased revenue volumes and new geographical markets," said Eberhard Schoneburg, CEO of Artificial Life, Inc.
Artificial Life welcomes investment proposals in its core business fields. Please contact us at ir@artificial-life.com.

New 450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router from TP-LINK Offers Faster Speeds and Wider Coverage for All Your Household's Online Activities
With more available wireless channels, the TP-LINK 450Mbps Dual Band Wireless Router provides the industry's best performance to reliably handle bandwidth-intensive activities such as HD video streaming and online gaming without interference or lag
CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif., Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- TP-LINK, a global provider of networking products, today announced its new 450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router, allowing you to achieve a reliable and high quality wireless multimedia experience online. With speeds of up to 450Mbps and simultaneous dual-band capabilities, you can now play music, games and HD videos as well as share photos from anywhere in your home or office without worrying about drops in wireless connection.
450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router (TL-WR2843ND) - $129.99 - available May 2011
Simultaneous dual band is the best weapon to avoiding interference on your wireless network. Because so many devices in the home--such as cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, and don't forget your neighbors' wireless routers--operate on the 2.4GHz band, the likelihood of your Wi-Fi network slowing down is high. However, with the additional 5GHz band on the 450Mbps Dual Band Wireless Router, you gain access to an entire band of free channels to transmit data. For example, you can use the 2.4GHz band to browse the Web while at the same time use the 5GHz band to stream HD videos.
The TP-LINK 450Mbps Dual Band Wireless Router offers a USB Share Port to attach an external hard drive or other USB storage device for sharing and backing up files. Adding a new device to your network is simple with its Wi-Fi Protected Setup Button. Just press a button and your wireless device will automatically receive your network security information and securely configure itself.
The 450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router is on display at:
-- 2011 International CES, January 6-9, 2011, in Las Vegas at Booth #31569
South Hall
-- ShowStoppers media event, January 6, 2011, in Las Vegas at The Wynn
Hotel
"With more and more people using media-intensive applications online, it becomes even more critical to ensure a reliable wireless experience," said Richard Xu, General Manager of TP-LINK USA. "Streaming HD content, gaming online, and even sharing photos require the best possible wireless connection. People want to get online and stay on. Our 450Mbps Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Gigabit Router stays true to this promise."
Features
-- With three spatial streams using MIMO technology, the Router achieves a
maximum theoretical throughput of up to 450Mbps--up to 50% faster in
speed and 60% increase in range over standard 300Mbps wireless 802.11N.
-- Simultaneous dual-band performance prevents interference and offers an
extra channel to ensure completion of all your bandwidth-intensive
applications.
-- USB Share Port allows you to attach a USB storage device--such as an
external hard drive, digital camera or USB flash drive--directly to the
Router, giving any network-connected user access to documents, videos
and photos on the storage drive.
-- Wi-Fi Protected Setup Button makes adding a new device to your network
simple. Just press a button and your wireless device will automatically
receive your network security information and securely configure itself.
